Lure retrievers

Found this lure retriever on the net, looks OK, has anyone seen or used one of these before?

www.snagaway.com

Anyone recomend a good lure retriever or have made their own?

Do they work as well for land based?

Thanks Brad
Looks like that would work well from a boat but I'm landbased most of the time

I don't think 8ft would save me many lures, I am interested to see what other options are around too, The only style I think would work is the tackleback type, you know the chain on a rope style retrievers.

Cheers.

I thought they used their own rope so you couldn't lose them ?

I've been SERIOUSLEY considering getting something like that, I'd love to have the confidence to throw SX40s, Zipbaits and Smiths right under jetties and into branches where the chances of snagging up are high (pays off fish-wise though)

go the tackle-back

Go the tackleback.

These work a real treat, saved be heaps of money. there a a few models around:

1) original tackleback with just a loop of angled wire at the front with heavier lead body

2) tackleback light, same as the original except smaller -designs for the bank-fisherman.

3) chain-tackleback- made by another company- i think is sure-catch or something like that. you can use this one without a snap swivel, while the original tackle back require the swivel so the angled wire can grap hold of the lure at the snap swivel site.

hope this helps.

Cheers,
Huey

The original tackleback in the lightest size works a treat, the wire bit on the front of it fits over bream lures perfectly. Fishing from the bank I have saved at least 40 lures with mine, and never gone through my leader (although I did go close on 4lb once). Usually you dont even need to re-tie the leader. Sometimes you just need to replace the bent hooks on the lure

I did recently lose my tackleback when it got stuck on whatever very solid snag my lure was on. but it had paid for itself many times over by then. I have baught another since and wouldnt leave home without it.

G'day mate,

I use a light tackleback when lure fishing off the bank. When out in the boat on the river like the Murray River I use a Murray Monsters lure retriever.

I carry a tackleback type retriever with me and its saved me quite a number of lures. I tie a separate line on it, 200lb dacron line and have yet to lose the retriever. Apart from saving my lures, it has also saved a number of lures from the other guys who's fished with me and I reckon quite a few SX40s owes it life to it.

Hey Chunqux

What brand is it (or did you make it) and where did you get it?
Have any pics of it?

From Perth, WA.

Its the one you can get from Kmart or Big W or most tackle shops. The one I got was a bit light but they make a heavier one also. I soldered additional weight on it to make it heavier. From a boat you don't need too heavy because you can drop it from directly above but from the shore, you're usually at an angle so the extra weight especially through the water is helpful.

Be sure to check the leader for nicks after using it because no point in rescuing the lure from a snag only to lose it 3 casts later because of a nicked leader.
