Your ideal reel ?

Speaking of certates and exists which are both great reels, are there any particular features you would like on a reel that aren't already there or if you could design your own, what features would it have, ie weight, bearings, gear ratio, colour etc... ???

I prefer a reel with a bit of weight to it, say 210-240grams or a bit more.
A ratio of about 5.3:1 or maybe less
The colour would either be jet black with dark silver highlights, dark grey and shiny (exist style) or maybe even something funky like the Daiwa Emeraldas but in dark blue.
A non-folding machined handle.
An 'I' shaped bearing supported knob.
Come with 2 spools, one 'finesse spool' and a normal deeper one.
Decent max drag pressure (7kg ish for the deep spool and maybe 2-3kg for the finesse).
No plastic components
A well hidden Anti Reverse switch
Maintainance port (like the shimanos)
and most importantly...A cool name! simple, normal but cool.

for me it would be the same body shape as a daiwa sol 2000, but with a larger spool and rotor ie 2506 design but with a slower ratio like featured in the gekkabijin
would have a RCS style machined handle with T knob
as mentioned it would have a shimano style maintenance port, no anti reverse at all (just another unused thing to go wrong), would be matte black with gunmetal grey rotor, and a shiny luvias coloured spool.
id like it to have 5 CRBB bearings and interchangeable spools, one finesse and one deeper spool.
5kg of drag is plenty and it would have to have a fully sealed body with no magnesium

The body design of a Daiwa Airity.
Weight of about 180-200g.
Washable design.
Watertight drag.
8-12 ARB/CRBB bearings (the more the better).
Airbail.
ABS spool.
Bright white body with gold highlights/spool/handle and bail.
Preferably no magnesium.
All metal construction.
Around 4:1 gear ratio.
1 finesse spool and 1 ultra deep spool.
Up to 5kg of drag is fine.
Colour that makes it stand out (white with gold).

...very nice

in my mind i hate reels that have gone to far with the design process.. these are normally the cheaper makes.
im really fussy with this,
in my mind i think the diawa soles and excellers have a really nice looking shape to them.
i prefere spools that hold 150m of 6lb max.
anti reverse is a joke, waste of time

Unless you are fishing 15-24kg why the hell would you want 5-7kg of drag???? What a bloody waste, given that the average bream angler uses 4lb braid and 6lb leader that is just wank.
I got no problem with using good gear but the tackle industry would be watching crap like this and rubbing their hands together

All sounds interesting. It seems like the drag and colour of the reels are important issues, with the weight factor and anti reverse also something to think about.
Personally, I'm into the colours as well, but can't decide which would be my favourite. Here's a few features that I would like;
Shape like the Sol/Kix design
Colour 1; all matt black body and rotor, with shiny black chrome bail, screws, spool lip, handle etc...
Colour 2: bright metallic purple with chrome purple bits
Ratio; 5:1
Anti reverse switch still an option, but well hidden
2 spools, one standard and one ultra light weight shallow
Weight; about 165 grams to 180 grams
Very limited plastic bits
Large soft black rubber handle knob
One piece screw in handle
Basic gearing design like a certate
Large corrosion resistant bail roller bearing

Just wondering why some of you dont like anti reverse?? I couldnt imagine using a reel without it, is there something I dont know about?

As for my reel choice. Id just love to get a chance to fish with some high end reels.....after that i might have some ideas for what I want. But a black and red colour scheme would be cool (Go the Bombers!)

For now my Applause will have to do!

size would want to be around 1500 size of a symetre
body of a sol
wieghing around 180-220 g
no anti reverse
150-200 yards of 6lb
i would have the colours of the exist with dark slime green running through the black of the exist, i would have to spool a metalic green and silver

"Just wondering why some of you dont like anti reverse?? I couldnt imagine using a reel without it, is there something I dont know about"

not talking about actually having no anti reverse, its the switch i hate.
much prefer a reel that was full time anti reverse enabled than one which had the option of switching back and forth.
the spring in the anti reverse switch is prone to moving or breaking in alot of reels which renders the reel useless for breaming because unless you permanently keep your hand on the handle the rotor will spin backwards and result in tangles.
for reels of this type i dont understand why tackle manufacturers insist on installing these annoying little switches, who ever turns off anti reverse and back winds while lure fishing?? maybe bass fishos but i doubt its a mainstream bassing technique
cheers
luke

Carp fisherman, in particular Uk and Europe, they switch off the anti reverse once they got a big fish. I guess it gives the angler more control when & where to let the fish go, particularly around snag.

Wouldn't it be smarter to just back off the drag. If your hands slip off the handle, all pressure is lost and bye bye fish
