Certate vs Exist

Just been browsing a few posts below and although I've read a few comments, who uses both Certates and Exists ?
How do they compare and do you think the Exists are worth the extra money ?

I've used a certate, airity, kix and sol over the past year and rate the certate as the pick of that bunch....

Certate smooth
Exist smoother (smoothest)

If you think the certates are still too heavy, then there's the exist.

If you can afford the best then go the exist. Whether it's worth the extra $$$ - i'm not going to say either way. Some people just want the best whatever the cost, others are happy with 2nd best.

I'm more than happy with my certate 2004. The body of the certate feels much more solid and robust. The body of the exist feels a bit plasticy.

i only have a certate 2000 but i absolutly love it. i think that the exsist is so light it would feel plasticy as TranquilityBass said. the body of certate is just so solid.

I know what you mean about that "plastic" sort of feeling, it's similar with the airity, but the airity still has a robust sort of feel about it as well. I've had a play with a couple of exists and that's the first thing that I noticed.
To me the exist didn't really feel any smoother than the certate, I thought they were about the same in that regard.
I have noticed though, that after i service these sort of reels, with the right amount of lube and oil in the right places they can feel like magic. I also tend to think that the "reel four" reels are smoother than the tourny airity/luvias style reels. Dunno if anyone else shares that opinion ?

You get what you pay for, it's as simple as that.

A $900 reel is going to generally be better than a $500 one.

Well yes... thanks for stating the obvious.

The the real (or reel) question is whether the $900 reel is $400 better than the other one.

Not so much that it's 400 bucks better, but machining, use of magnesium alloys, and the protective coatings are all done using some pretty expensive machinery.

Production costs are passed right down the price line. Then there's markup for profit.

Plastic feel? Yep, magnesium is that light. Have a look inside: the white protective coating on the inside looks even more plastic.

Exist 2004 review on tackletour.

Quote:
Conclusion: ... Is it twice the reel that the Certate is to match its almost doubled price tag? No, but I swear it feels like half the Certate 2000's weight! Are there numerous reasons why I should not like this reel? Yes and they are all delineated in this article, but then, please tell me why I am now in possession of three in varying configurations and thinking about a fourth?!

That Tackletour website is fantastic, although I haven't been there since they've put up the exist, so I'll go there and take a look at what they've come up with....
It's funny really, we all know full well that we'll catch just as many bream on a sub $300 reel, but I suppose that's not the point is it ?
Good gear is a must, it all started for me when as a kid I became fascinated with the older Swedish ABUs and French Mitchells, which I ended up owning quite a few of. Next up was the first run of the American made Fin Nor Ahabs, which I regarded as by far the finest threadline reels in the world ( for their time - '95 - '98 ), but of course these days we have many more to choose from and Daiwa certainly are at the top of the tree as far as threadlines go.
I wonder if there will ever be a range of small threadies from the Zeebaas stable - that would be interesting....

Had both, sold Certates mainly due to weight factor, they feel far to heavy for me.

lighter isnt always better.
Remember you want you rod to be perfectly balanced. If your reel is to light your rod might not balance anymore.
So if you pay big for a light reel you may have to end up getting a lighter rod to match it.

If it was me id take my rod in with me and set both reels up on it and see wat i like.

Oh and $400 is ALOT of lures
