Hey guys im thinking of buying a new reel and wondering if the diawa exceler 1500 is a good idea?
Also has anyone else used it and would know if it gets tangles often?
Any info would be much appreciated!

For the money, the TD Exceler is the BEST reel. I used to have a 2000 size model, and barely had any tangles. The digigear drive system is a beauty and ensures a good drag and smooth performance.

Very good for only around $130.

Although, it has nothing on my TD Caldia Kix

To be honest, I LOVE the small Penns (Accord, Pursuit, Applause, Affinity) and Whenever someone comes into work and asks for a good quality reel that will last I almost always tell em to go for the Penn range. Having said that the small Daiwas like the Pro Shooter are a very good reel, but they don't feel as solid as the Penns. I cant comment on the Exceler personally, coz I've never used one, but IMO any Daiwa is a good value for money reel.

I bought an exceller in the second half of last year, and for the first couple of weeks, it was all I had hoped for, smooth, good drag and line lay.But soon after it deveoped a rough feel when winding, and before i had time to send it back to daiwa, it crashed,with it seemingly chipping a cog in the gearings.When you wound the spool would ocilate to its highest spot before just dropping.Its now in Daiwas hands, but i wasnt happy.
I bought a Penn Applause to replace it, and I cant be happier, smooth, very solid, and nice drag.

Overall howerver the Daiwas are good reels, and i guess I just got a lemon.

Getting a lemon is probably right. My 2000 size lasted me a couple of years with no major problems. You probably just got unlucky. Daiwa should replace the chipped cog, and the reel will be as good as new.

im sure all the exceler lovers will be happy to hear theres an exceler PLUS in production, features airbail, sealed wet drag system and a few other features only found in the higher end of the market, cant wait to get my hands on one

Id be carefull with this one...

Had a look at the 1000 series myself last weekas a backup reel....if your fishing light line..2-4lb even 6lb....at the correct drag settings for this line, the spool has a significant amount of wobble..noticed it on winding , but grab the spool and move it on its axis....WAY to much movement.

Seemed ok with the drag screwed down, but as i wanted to fish relativley light drag settings, i left them alone.

i think you will find that with most reels if your fishing a not much drag pressure and i dont really see how its a problem.
aslong as the drag is still smooth and the line is coming off evenly i doubt a mm of movement will cause problems.

they're a sensational reel, for the money you cant go wrong, i love mine and looking at getting another, if there is a _+ coming out i'll be stoked.

What can I say? Great reel for the price... Iv'e been using one (2000) for the last few months and I'm very impressed with the results. Loaded with 4lb and matched to a 7ft rod it casts very nice. Still as smooth as the day I got it.
Only problem is that sometimes the bail arm doesn't flip over every time, but I think this happens to them all and is a result of the design of the bail arm.

the local tackle shop has the exceler plus and they look the goods. Only had just arrived and they believe the retail to be around the $200 mark, Does anyone have a more concrete price? wonder how it compares to the tierra?

at the end of the day you are buying a $130 reel that has a bit more technological advancement than say a Penn but it's made in China so there's a compromise here.
