I have 3 Exists and they are all bloody marvellous....weigh almost nothing and are as smooth as silk and while they werent cheap they were most certainly worth it ( I like to justify it like this....A daewoo will get from A-B no worries but its much more fun in a Ferrari :P ).....couldnt fault them in any way.

Just got myself a exist 3012 from Plat today. Which 3 models have you got? how do you rate exist to certate and stella? Do you know what's the difference between 3012 and 3000 apart from 3000 hold more line capacity and ligther?

I have 2 x 2004's and 1 x 2506.
I also have a Certate 2000 and for breaming I rate the exists above it.....mainly coz they are heaps lighter and every bit as smooth, for more heavy duty stuff I do prefer my Certate though. Personally I dont rate the small stella's that highly I find the top end Daiwa's to be smoother in reeling and in the drag, but that's just my opinion and I am sure someone will disagree with me. The 3000 and 3012 Exists came out after I left the tackle game and went travelling so I really couldnt answer any questions about them. |

The top of the range Daiwas - Exists, Certate, Airity and Luvias are the pick of th bunch in comparing threadline reels. All have their little differences and price range differences, but comparing them to other reels on the market they are far superior these days: better drag systems, better line lay appreciation, smoother and less problems and faults overall, balancing outfits to perfection.
Years ago the Stella was the pick of the bunch, but they haven't changed much at all and with Shimano's name being so good as it is, it's no wonder they don't have to change much at all. In the high-end market group, the Shimano Stella is the only one worthwhile considering outsider your daiwas however, it's drag system isn't top notch in comparison, however on bream, it doesn't really matter a great deal most times and will still do a good job on the racks in places where big bruising 1+kg bream reside, albeit I would prefer the more stronger and sturdier Daiwa reels as you feel more so in control. The Shimano Aspire is a great disappointment. It feels bulky and heavy, yet balances rods ok, the drag system is much to be desired yet performs without duress, but it's lacking top quality smoothness and finesse that the Daiwas top range reels offer. It feels bloggy and seems to drag more than wind. I must admit I am really surprised with the quality of thereel and am disappointed with it overall, especially considering it's price tag. Certainly overall you can't be disappointed with any of the top Daiwa reels, and it is going to get better with the new reels coming out soon. Shimano does ride on its name and it is a very good name indeed don't get me wrong, and hardcore Shimano aficionados will never be disappointed much at all. Having once been a total Shimano addict, it was very difficult to convert to the Daiwas, but after being shown one I could see why they were starting to overtake the quality stakes. And after all these years, I'm yet to see a more pristine, higher quality set of products that come close to what they have done over the last few years.

I have lots of Exist's(2004,2506) and Stella's.
For me, Exist's rate best. Like the larger spool, bigger reel with less weight factor. Drags, who knows which is better on bream , they are only bream...........

A really good strong dray system can be useful on occassions especially when you're fishing oyster leases. Big bruising blue lip monsters lurk under racks and the last thing you want is an ordinary drag system.
So at times, depending on where you are, bream aren't just bream......... Actually it's funny when an ordinary drag system blows apart on a big 1.5kg bream in racks. Ok, it wasn't for my mate at the time. His Shimano Stella blew a fuse. However, that is not to say that the Stella cannnot handle such pressure. They do well. It is a time factor and how the drag system is set up. The Daiwas in that top line have longevity on their side.

Do not have tha Airity although I'd love to get a 2506 in the 'affordable range'. I believe the Exist is a much upgraded technology compared to the Airity. Do have the Luvias and Exist by the way.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry so much about drag on bream. Just thinking abt to get a spare spool and upgrade to the carbonrex drag for bigger spieces.

Got my hands on a 2508 Exist today.
The weight (or lack of) is amazing. Smoothness second to none. Initial impression was that the air metal body of the Exist feels a bit plasticy to me. Doesn't feel as robust as the cool solid aluminum alloy of the Certate. I guess this has got to do with the physical properties of the alloys. The lower density and hence weight of the air metal is a definite advantage though.

Yeah, you don't have to be loaded to own one... it's not the same as buying a Ferrari is it. And of those who own one, most would not have paid full retail price.

Anyone knows is the 3000 size exist spool will fit the 3012. Or RCS? Power knob fit the 3012?

The 2500 spool will fit the 2508 and 2508R I'm told, so it's probably the same for the 3000/3012.
Look at the conformity guide on Plat's site, u might be able to get confirmation there. |
