This is the reel you need down on the Blackwood next w'end!!
Just lean on the lever and turn the bigboys head around.

Lock it up and just dont let them take line to start with thatd be the cheapest option i reckon and a good set of pliers will help you do that.

My Sols apparently run 7kg drag, Ive had them cranked up to 4.8kg and there aint no bream thats going to pull line from them at that setting - I dont think so anyway, my theory is always lock m up and rip m out, the quicker I can have them on the surface and disorientated the quicker they give up the ghost.

Interesting little device though the lever brake thing, the advice Ive had from some shops on servicing the odd Daiwa reel scares the daylights out of me to that stage I wont service any of my three Sols in a shop as most just dont like doing it, i`ll stick with some home general maintenance til they die.

Did I say its only 3 weeks til I go to Exmouth - and I cant wait, another rod and two reels arriving real soon and that`ll make 3 combos ready to go.

cheers

With only 4kg drag I reckon Mr Spanglie and Golden would give me a little to much curry and make their way home more than Id want I reckon.

I ran 4.8kg on my Sol last year and still heard a few clicks come from the reel, the Sols have 7kg so there is still a fair amount to go, I was looking at the Shimano Sephia but they aint in Aus, but they do run 6kg drag which would be perfect. I just like the lightest combo I can come up with.

cheers

Go a baitcaster Richo. My new Curado 300 holds 300 yards of 30lb braid and can put out 7kg of drag. I used it for some bottom bashing in Walpole and it did it easy. Also it only weighs 295gms. Top reel that you could cast all day.

Cheers, Dror

Maybe one day Dror, but I prefer egg beaters just way to much at the moment - i`ll be running 300m of 30lb and the 7kg drag should be well and truly enough - if not i`ll pull out the big pig 20000 and skull thgem in with 80lb, you have got me interested though and Ive strated having a gander at them.

It would mean Id need another rod, ah well no harm in that I suppose. Glad Ive got no kids on the way

cheers

I have 2 of the older type LB (Lever-Brake) reels. They are designed for float fishing on the rock, target fish like Drummer. Once the lever lock is off, the anti-reverse is off, and you can control the reverse by the brake, ie, how hard you squeeze the lever. You have more control when to/not to let the fish run.

However, back to those days, the LB reel always seems to be not as smooth as the spinning reel, maybe there are more runnning parts inside, and the brake is actually not that adjustable, more like a on/off switch. But that model was 5 years old. Not sure how much the technology has progressed
