Many years ago I repaired a rod for a customer who invited me to his property which was located a long way up Toodyay road.
The place had a massive waterway, dammed at one end, island in the middle, and at that stage it held murray cod, trout and numerous other species.
I drove up there one afternoon, nice place, very well hidden, and fished the water on the boat so I can tell you it certainly is no urban myth.
Back then the waterway was quarantined, with the intention to be to open it up to the public as a pay and fish venture.
But from what I can tell it hasn't made any headway. Who knows why, I think it would have been bloody awesome.
The only thing I can think of is that the quarantine was never lifted due to possible diseases within the waterway.

On the subject of bass, just wait a few years, I'm sure you will come across one of these critters soon enough.
