New Varivas Avani Sea Bass

Just received this new line today after reading a decent review of it here: http://www.yaffa.com.au/fw/products.htm

First impressions were:
1. Great colour
2. Very supple
3. A lot rounder (or square) than the fireline "ribbon"

Bearing in mind that I have only used fireline and fireline xds in the past.

Pity 10lb (PE 0.8) is the lightest it's made in. Will spool up and try it out over the weekend.

Some comparison pics below.

10lb Avani Sea Bass vs 8lb Fireline XDS

It looks as thin or slightly thinner than 8lb xds, but doesn't really show in the photo. Notice the xds has got some ribbon twist in it. Probably not the best comparison though as I think the xds has been used (can't remember whether this is the used end or the unused end of the line).

I think Dror had some of the 10lb spooled up during the GF.

Check with Sewelly, but I recall $80 being mentioned for a spool???

If the 3990 yen tag on the package is anything to go by, then it might retail around for $50. But then again, import tax and other expenses might add a few dollars here and there.

Retail is $65-00.

All out of the 10lb and none available for a couple of weeks.

There is some 12lb arriving early next week.

I do appreciate that you all care for the hobby and take meticulous care in your tackle etc. Sure, there's a lot to be said for refining your approach and equipment etc.

But WHY? To this extent??

Spending 50-80 bucks on a spool of braid?

There are fortunately more important things in life than fishing line...

I'm not usually one to be such a pain in the buttocks, but it's really been getting to me lately...The equipment does NOT make a better fisherman!

Great colour & visibility.

Pity about the lack of fish though.

The reason this line doesn't come in any lighter then 10lb is because it's got a P.E. rating. Which means it's almost test braid so it will acctually snap at extremely close to, if not on, 10lb. It has the exact same breaking strain as 4lb Fireline (Since Fireline and other non P.E. braids are marked up) making it great for Bream and the like. I am keen to get some soon for Bream as I have heard many good things about it .

I have been using this line on one of my reels for the last two months or so and have found it excellent so far. The colour is very easy to see and the line behaves well, also has very good knot strength. I will probably change all my reels to this line in the near future.
I admit to being a bit of a line sl#t. I try pretty much every new line that comes out. Is it necessary, no but I enjoy it and have the money to spend on this sort of thing. Fortunately there are cheaper alternatives out there and no one has a gun to anyones head forcing them to use these new lines. Each to there own.

Cheers, Dror
