Exclamation Penn Applause

Has anybody used any of the Penn Applause series reels, especially in the 8000 (yes, 8000) size for my bigger fish.

Could anybody tell me how it fares in saltwater and what it's maximum line capacity is (weight wise). Even if it isn't the 8000 size reel, could you still give me the info.

P.S. I know this isn't a bream reel, but practically nobody goes to the saltwater forum so my chances of a response would be higher here.

For the money, Ya can't go wrong.

I've had a 7000 for a while now and no troubles at all, does what i want, pretty happy with it overall.

Had very few back to the store as well, after selling many.

Pretty easy reel to service at home too.

just a catch up Brody

I thought you'd given shark fishing a miss these days, that's not a reel it's a bloody winch.
greetings from Canada

Then how about the 7000 size? Can it take 25lb? Remember, it's not how much line it can hold, it's just that I don't want the bail being ripped open before the line breaks. ( Yes, it has happened to me before, and it cost me a Jewie)

OK.....

Can anybody give me the approximate drag capacity of the 7000 and/or 8000 size Applauses? Anybody? Even an estimation based on other Penn reels.

Don't you think I may have already tried that?

You'd be surprised how hard it is to find the drag of the Applause series.

If you have a link, please tell.

i could almost promise you the bail arm is not going to get ripped off on an applause, was it a captiva or cheap kmart model that you ripped the bail off.....dont buy reels from kmart or major chains like that your just asking for trouble.
might seem nice and smooth and strong at the time but they only sell things with massive profit margins so they can run there 25% off sales and still make a killing...sums up the quality of that gear.
you will be fine with an applause or similiar

I'd be guessing at least 15lbs of drag pressure, probably more.
