Shallow Water HB's
lately ive been working very shallow areas with a bottom consisiting of extreme amounts of green crap, im not too sure if its right on the bottom or just floating around making a nuisance of itself. Does anyone have any ideas as to what sort of lure to use the water wouldnt be more than a metre deep (ive tried my collection - oargee, minmin, palaemons, sneakys, 52's, ) there are decent bream there i just gotta work out how to avoid this weed.
I dont think poppers would work, although they are boiling on the surface they show no interest in a fouled lure worked across the surface in a range of fashions. Anything go down less than a metre? anyhelp would be greatly appreciated |

try the rebel crawdad (shallow), I not sure on its stated depth, but if worked reasonably slowly it doesn't in my experience go more than 1-2ft.

try this!
If there is weed fouling the trebles from touching bottom then drive the lure down and retrieve in short slow/fast bursts but stalling/pausing just before it hits the bottom. It takes a bit of practice and it's a technique that most people probably use.
Maybe someone can answer that for me ? Every lure has an average/max depth that it runs at and I regularly fish water that is shallower than the stated lure depth. eg: In the perth AOY round Mim and I both fished 1.5 to 2.5 foot of water with the River2Sea Shed which dives to around to 2 metres. I know it definately goes deeper than 3 foot. I stall it over weed and bounce it off the bottom on the sand. You should have seen the Bream chasing it out from the weed beds. They must have thought they were Flathead. Hoping this sorts a few qu's in your mind |

A small, orange Floppy with the bib all the way down would work, they only swim about 18'' down

Oargees can be shallow divers by adjusting the height or your rod tip. Just hold it a little higher.
Another lure worth looking at is the Yozuri Snap-Shad.

Hey Keeno
Get some Rapalas in your box, F5's are great for working real shallow areas & they come in they most natural colours around (rainbow trout, trout, minnow, etc.). I also use CD5's for the deeper spots. Rapalas are great for clear water... I love rapalas

Thanks everyone for the help
certainly broadened the knowledge on what to use Bear, I have been employing this tactic a fair bit but the weedy stuff just wont go away, im now thinking this weed doesnt sit on the bottom it just floats around mid-water or wherever thanks anyway fellas

the rebel crick hopper the most underated bream lure ever most of my hard-body caught bream fell to this lure
also look at the pak-rat from killa lure it dives to 3ft (deeper with braid) try lifting the rod tip as bear suggested that works well

As Kingpin wrote, have a go at the surface lures as well. R2S do a great little popper that is worth a try.
