Relatively new to the angling world, having done little more than drown worms in the Gippsland lakes off the Lakes Entrance jettys whenever the kids nagged enough.

Over the last 12 months got more interested and have read heaps, but don't get out much. The brag book is disturbingly empty - after all, would you really photograph sub 30cm PPB flatties

I've found Fishnet to be really helpful, and developed a thirst for more knowledge. Their members have been great, and one of them lead me to your terriffic site. Targetting Bream on SP's is one of my ambitions - so much so that I took the plunge and grabbed myself a 6' 6" Shogun Rod, Abu Garcia Cardinal 303 reel and 6lb Fireline.

With the info from this site, I may just have to dust off the brag book

BTW - Am spending April school holidays back at Lakes Entrance and would love some tips on where & how to find fish - seems the bait shops send everyone to a) town jettys, b) bullock island, c) Kalimna Jetty and for boaties d) Barrier Landing,

g'day Ghoti (yes, pronounced FISH i know!),

One of the best investments when starting out bream fishing i believe is to purchase the 'how to catch bream on lures and flies' by Bushy and Starlo, available from the online shop. That gives you a good understanding of some of the basics about bream habits, habitats and how to look for them, what to do to with your lure etc.

Mate have a real good look through the archive of info on this site. It has masses of it. You will learn heaps from here. Then put it into practice as much and often as you can.
Once you've got a few fish under your belt, you will be unstopable!!!

G'day Ghoti, (I know you from fishnet)

At Lakes Entrance there are some great bream spots with beautiful big fish.
Any of the rock groynes that come out from the Rigby Island going back up the lake toward Metung are good spots.
The rock walls from Kalimna Jetty down toward Bullock Island are great for Bream and Luderick.
The Bullock Island rock wall/groyne at the Kalimna/Rigby Island corner is good for big bream, bounce a jig down the rocks on a heavy leader.
The Post Office jetty can fish well for many species, Bream, Mullet, Tailor and Salmon are common.
The North Arm can be good for Garfish, go well upstream from the boat ramp, right around the corners till it narrows down. There is limited land based access to this area (Capes Rd I think).

Don't limit yourself to Lakes Entrance itself, try the rivers, Tambo, Nicholson and Mitchell. Try Nowa Nowa, behind the caravan park in the Nowa Nowa arm of Lake Tyers, also Burnt Bridge, Fishermans Landing, etc. Around at the boat ramp at Lake Tyers Beach (not the one on the foreshore near the shop, the one over the back of the township further from the beach, there are large Bream around the weed beds there.

I have to stop now, I'm getting all homesick for the area, wish I was there now.

PW - interesting to see the areas you mention at Lakes. I've committed worms to a watery grave at most of these sites, but guess my lack of success is 'cause I copied everyone else and hurled the bait out as far as I could. It will be interesting to revisit these places with a different approach and see the results.

The fish (Bream & Luderick) are right on the rock walls, Salmon and Tailor respond to lures cast out. All around Kalimna Jetty there are lots of Luderick all round the underwater structure most days (I used to skin dive a lot around the lake).
Mulloway are a chance all the way up to Metung, not a common catch though.
