Over here in Sydney we have a plethora of "arse biters", mostly small Tailor, Toads and Spikey Flathead. Most trips out see about 1/2 dozen tails getting shortened by something small with teeth

Cheers
Matt

yeah as daniel said i went down to the spit the other day (windy as all !@#$) it was to windy to see the takes . though everytime i threw out the plastic it got nail either as it sank down beside the pylon or halfway back to me. i used atomic 2" grubs , squidgy wrigglers , strike me lucky 1" grubs , and sliders and about 2 or 3 colours in each sort .i put it down to peckers like small bream , maybe some tailor , toadies , or some school of yellow striped fish that schooled behind the lure and followed it to my feet everytime. my brother was using bait and he had a small 1.5 ml thick hook baited with a prawn bitten in half .

Just a thought guys - they're not always caused by Toads or Choppers, Bream do it too!!

Try running a longer shanked jig, or shortening the plastic so the hook comes out only just before the tail - and turn some of those missing tails into fish

Cheers,

i tried that using aus spin 1/16 jig heads which come out perfectly on small plastics .but when they are peckers they are peckers and there is not much you can exept maybe try shads or something a little stronger

G'day Michael

you and me get "tail bite offs" all the time, because where me and you usualy fish the waters are filled with pike, longtoms, little and big choppers and those dreaded spiefoot so the best thing we can do is rip ya softie out of the water as soon as you see one (unless it is a chopper)

Cheers Matt
