I have JUST started (as in last week) fly fishing in the salt.
For Bream you want a 6/7# rod and a large arbor reel filled with 7# intimediate line. Im only very new to it so I cant really offer you much help on what flies to use but im sure your local store can help you out. Good luck mate. Its truckloads of fun and a great challenge. cheers, Nathan

It ain't easy
For me anyway....I have had a couple of sessions on the fly. I have found a very CONTROLLED retrieve is often required. Too much movement and they just spook..... I'm yet to get one on a weighted fly.... Thats not to say they don't work. Pat |

bream on fly
hi all,
i've had a reasonable amount of success on fly for what its worth this is what i have been able to figure out. where - where ever the fish are. sounds obvious but where ever you have caught them spinning you can get them on fly. setup - 6wt rod & WLA reel. floating line for flats less than about 6' deep. inter for say up to 2.5 or 3m shooting head for anything deeper than that. leader - about 6' to 9' straight flurocarbon up to 12lb depending on water clarity, length depends on what you can turn over flies - crazy charlies, meldrums, weighted clousers, shrimp patterns, very thin sparsely tied clousers which look like a little stick bait. colours - try and match your favorite SP or HB. but personaly as lefty says "if it aint chartruse it aint no use" i seam to catch slightly lower numbers on fly vs spin but i put that down to the speed you can fish with fly. ie you can probably make 2 or 3 cast with spin gear in the time it takes to fish one fly cast properly. add that up over a 6hrs session and you make a hell of a lot less casts and hence cover less water. BUT - every one on fly is somhow just that much more sepcial IMO good luck. brad |

I spoe its that lil bit more special cos its like bait fishing to lure fishing lure caught fish are a more special and i spose fly is slightly better, more effort, more reward.
