Scuttler,
Yeah i know what your saying mate, it seems like a lot of guy`s have caught "fibreglass fever"..... I don`t know why, i can`t see how they will ever be as versatile as an aluminium boat in this country! Cheers Bunga! |

Yea mate, personally I don't really understand it. There certainly are some beautiful boats getting around lately. But "virsatility" is the key word. We need it for the styles of fishing most lure chuckers do in this country, which I can't really see in 17-20 ft ski boats with casting decks.
The only days you'll see a ski boat go outside is when it's flat. So the extra size doesn't get you any more outside time than a tinnie would (even less than a good V Tinni). The exrta length restricts you massively in thoes tight Docks, in and around moorings, little snag ridden Creeks etc etc. Breamers can spend alot of time in small shallow rivers where sand banks, mid water snags and narrow turnarounds etc were fine for tinnies, not so good for big glassies. Tinnies can be bashed around... oyster racks, docks, rock bars and all of the other hard 'n sharp stuff tin doesn't mind. Not the best practices for glass. I guess a "pro" is the speed factor. These things sure do hook along nicely, on flat, open water that is. Except in a comp', what does getting to a spot a minute or so earlier matter?. On top of that is the danger factor. They do have substantial storage space. But really, how much stuff do you need to take Bream'n? What do you need to put in there? a load of huddled up Phillipino immigrants?. They'd be quieter than tin. But does a bit of "hull slap" really annoy the fish? or just the fisherman? They do look comfortable! I think that is a definite plus over most tinnies. I spose the ride would be smoother and quite a bit more pleasurable. Really though thats the only advantage, for Bream spinning, I can see. But I can see quite a few disadvantages to them in relation to the "all round" styles of lure fishing people do in Australia. But I spose if people want to spend alot more money on a boat essentially, to catch an, on average 950 gm fish, even though the boat restricts the fisherman from doing alot of things that are generaly required for Bream'n. Where a cheaper tin boat is designed, and practicle for, in Australian coastal conditions, not giant American Bass impoundments. I kinda get the impression this may all fall under the umprella of the old"Operation Peacock". ![]() P.s I havn't had a ride in one of these flash boats. Just my observations and thoughts. Pps. Sorry to ramble on a bit Bunga. Good luck selling the ship. ![]() Cheers |

P.p.ps. Given the chance, I would like a flash glass boat. But I'd have to have my tinnie also. Just too versatile.

Why is it that there seems to be a thing against people who go for the glass bass style boats. The point is I'm sure they are used for a lot more than just breamin.
On the east coast there is some great impoundment fishing where these style of boats kick butt, especially over long distances. Here on the west coast there is some great northern inshore fishing where they are ideal again. For those of use who don't go too well in the swell, the bigger donk means a quick trip out and more time to fish. JMO.

Not having a go at the people who are buying glass bass boats. Or Glass boats for that matter. I just question their general Australian practicality.
For some, they WOULD be practicle. Long flat water runs are what their built for. Impoundments...great. Flat off shore conditions ...great. A bit not so flat off shore.. not so great. Small tight rugged conditions ... not so great. Alot of standard lure fishing... still great. I know guys who have upgraded to some reasonably biggish tinnies, who say quite often they can't go to alot of spots they used to as a result of a bigger boat. An even bigger and heavier boat would increase this problem. I don't mind, It means I get to still go to all those spots the big boats can't access ![]() Unfortunatly though, not quite as comfortably or as quick. ![]()

A bloke I know has a big glass boat to fish the ABTs in NSW and I think the big factor in it is the amount of water he can cover, if it's not happening at one spot it sure don't take him long to get to another and this can be the deciding factor as to his results for the days points. The way tournaments are shaping up nowadays these boats would seem to be necessary to remain competitive. I'd love to have a skeeter or the like and could afford one if need be, but that's just it I don't , nor do many others. As far as versatility goes, I know I'd rather be in my hornet at night fishing for jewies than in one of the glass specials, especially if there's a lot of traffic about on the water, they are just so close to the briny that it would be easy to take a dunking. But they sure do look the bees knees and the performance and finish on them is outstanding, don't know how they will go with these new speed restrictions they want to implement in NSW waterways. The money for them is a big thing to, unless your one of the lucky few to be sponsered, the winnings from the comps just isn't that good.

hey guys
look im currently in the market for a bass boat and the reason is not kus there faster its because they are alot more comfortable than alloy and as the river is not very choppy the freeboard factor is not nessecery. As for the accessability part the only system that might be a probllem would be more river , but im sure a little bit of a chinwag on the forums will find you sucesfully with a deal of e.g. " ill take my boat to more river (alloy owner)" and the other person sayin "kewl then the next trip in the swan we take my boat" so at the end of the day every 1 wins. and as for the old rumour of glass is faster ba ba ba bull@#&$ alloy can be just as fast if not faster trust me ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() cheers breno |
