Daiwa Pixy, What do you think?

Hey all, Just wondering, who uses a pixy here? or is intending on purchasing one. I do believe that in the next few years over heads are going to become more frequent in bream tournements

i highly doubt overheads will become common in bream tournaments seeing as u can not cast the light lures like u can with spineng gear
plus how many poeple do u see win a bream tournament with overheads???

They won't replace spin gear, but yeh, you can cast light weights, down to about 3 grams...
I know a few local guys using them on bream and loving it.

i thought it balanced nice on both my Black Diamond rods need to think about it a bit more

from what I understand the Diawa Liberto Pixy's are the baitcaster to have for light lures. I've read one US review that claims you can get 30-40 feet with 3 gram plastics. They're basically designed and engineered for the Japanese Trout fishing scene- so the ability to cast light lures is paramount. They've been on the market in Japan for a few years, so they must do it reasonably??!!

I've been intersted in these for a while. Has anyone played with the matching TD Pixy rod? very finesse.

I'm thinking they would be perfect for casting HB's into structure. I reckon we'd all agree, that all things being equal, a baitcasting outfit for casting into structure will beat a spin (threadline) outfit anyday in terms of control and ease in casting?? Agree??

So who's going to be the giunee pig?

Only prob with all this is that the Pixy is designed as a freshwater only reel, I wouldn't be using one in the salt. The Alphas is saltwater safe, and is supposed to be almost as good as the Pixy with light lures. I have an Alphas on it's way now, so I guess I'll know shortly.

I've must say I've not yet cast a pixy...but I do have two Alphas and all I can say is they are bloody good...yes I'll be using Alphas on bream with hard bodied lures, but won't be using it in comps.

Go for Alphas...

Yup the Alphas is a much better option:- salt/fresh, heavy or light(ish) lures...its that much more versatile.

That being said, I'd never get a bc for breaming (much as I like using a bc), simply because spinning reels do the job with the minimum of fuss.

I have a pixy and it is a great rod for bass and squire. But as for bream......... notta.

The spin gear will still be the premium gear used as the casting distance with weightless up to 1/16oz is by far more accurate and achievable with spin rather than overheads.

The overheads are not designed for this bream fishing that we do. And knowing me, being me, I had to try it to prove to myself it wasn't the way to go.

BTW,

The Liberto pixy reel was made especially for the pixy rod and is totally a freshwater reel as it's made out of magnesium...... unless you have bought the saltwater version.

mmmm yeah had a play with the pixy when they arrived but wasnt confident about the 'magnesium' in salt..alls good providing you dont scratch the protective paint job...went for the TD SOL BC instead and havent put it down....i can go head to head with a stradic / t curve combo shooting 1/32 heads and 2 1/2" paddles and land within a metre every time...and in any condition...and the abiliy to quickly swap from platic to HB without switching rods is a jem when hiking and carrying minimal gear
