Hook Position in plastics

Hi Guy's it's been a while,
Could anyone tell me where, in a 2' grub, should the hook protude from the plastic.

I have found my Squidgie jigheads are comming out about half to 3 quaters of the way down the grub. If I shorten the grub will it effect the action? I suppose I could allways use smaller grubs....

Hey Trag

I just quickly got a slider grub and measured it along a size 4 hook and size 2 hook and it was different, obviously the hooks are different size.
I saw Steve Starling put a squidgy on his jig in his and Bushy's "Squidgee's Secrets Video" and this is how I have been putting S.P.'s on since.
You need to measure by putting the plastic along side the jig and look to see where the bend in the hook starts in relation to the plastic. That is where you want the point of the hook to come out.
Then feed the plastic on the jig ensuring you take the time to keep it central and upright, and poke the point of the hook out where you previously measured.

I fished with Kurt Blanksby during the Swan comp and he is considerd by his peers to be a bit of a freak with sliders, (He's pretty good) i am sure he'll tell you to take your time setting one up using this technique. If it isn't centerd properly or sits funny on the hook you are only hurting yourself, I hope this helps Trag

Spot on Geoff, thats how I do mine as well - straight from the vid, and I try and make sure its as straight as possible, its worth the extra minute or two to take your time.

cheers

To add to the boys above, shortening the grub to have the hook coming out closer to the tail only slightly affects the action - I regularly cut Sliders and Atomics down by a notch or three, in fact I probably do this more often than not, especially in crystal clear water, where a big plastic can spook fish.
