cheers mate, i'll look into it. my only problem with the penn affinity is the weight the shimano is alot lighter then it.

has anyone tried the shimano at all?? i have used shimano pretty much solely and i wouldn't mind staying with them. but if the
penn as good as u say i'll give it a go.
can anyone else help us out??

thanx guys

The stradic is far the better reel, i have one on a pflueger 7ft 2-5kg and its very nice and under 100$, i did shorten the butt though, on the reel? you will find many of the tournament guys use stradics and the warranty is 10 years, enough said?.

why is a stradic a far better reel?

i work in a tackle store and field test new braids and new reels every weekend and the affinty is my favourite reel for the price its an awsome reel with newer technology but mate a stradic is a good reel dont get me wrong

I've got three stradics and they have served me well. Never had a drama.

I've had a sic stick and now have a sic stik pro. Both are good rods except I have snapped about 4-5 tips. Good performing budget rod the sic stik.

You wont be dissapointed with a stradic

Na it wasn't the fact that they are brittle, it mas more my poor handling skills around trees and similar tip snapping hazards. A 1-3kg or even 2-4kg sic stik will serve you well for softies and hard bodies.

In saying that there are a number of rods out there for a similar price that I have never owned that will be just as good. Maybe some other guys who have used them eg shimano, loomis, miller, black diamond that may be able to throw an opinion at you.

I would get to a tackle shop attach the reel you are going to purchase and see how they all feel ie balance, action etc. That will give you a good start on your purchase.

G'day mate,i would'nt go with the finn's on a spin reel ,it get's the biggest air knot's real easy when casting light jig heads,go with a gelspun like fireline it dos'ent get half the air knot's as the other's..d-103

l beg to differ my Finn's braid is awesome stuff. l fish the 4lb and never have trouble.Sure ,the running in time like all new line's is there but as to complete ball's up's, it just doen'st happen.l put it ahead of any gelspun (typewriter ribbon) for shear smoothness through guide's and casting distance.
l also use the Rapala Titanium and that too win's over Berkley product's for me.lve used Berlkey products like everyone for year's and lm just over them l guess.Just take a look at it after a couple of month's, crinkled is all l got to say.
lm not trying to burst your Berkley bubble mate just telling it how l see it.Alot of mid air wind knot's are angler generated.Eratic casting or trying to load up your cast's too much spring to mind.Casting is an art that to me is never mastered but more refined to suite your ability and gear.JMO

im with steve

4 lb fins is great on spinning reels.

i also have not had a problem with it and would recomend it over fireline any day.
