Reel for Flats Ranger

Was wondering what reel you guys would recomend fitting onto a 7' Black Diamond Flats Ranger 2-5kg?

I need a new reel for it. My limit would be $300 any more then that and i start to think about all the Flukes or baby vibes i could buy so yer $300 max.

Cheers

I got one of these today and it's insane. It's a new Shimano Twinpower 2500FB (also available in a 1000FB) Check it out you will be very impressed. I was going to get a Daiwa as per my other thread, but this is just in another league IMO. Also it's made in Japan unlike the Sol and some of the other Diawa's in this range.

Sorry to hype on but if you have read the other thread you will know that I was set on getting a Diawa, however I was a little worried about the quality of some of the ones I had seen in the shops and turned my attention back to Shimano. I like the fact that the Twin power is all AR-B bearings (7+1) not just some, as I use my gear in heavy salt all of the time. The new Twinpower's are very similar to the Stella's only half the price.

Regards Dave

I use an Okuma AV-15 on my Flats 1-3kg and have had no issue yet.

Been thinking about modifying the reel and lowering it towards the blank, just seems to me the closer the spool to being in line with the guides the easier it is for the line to spool out.

Any ideas on this before I ruin a reel

Hey Shane.

That's my biggest grouse with a lot of reels these days. I have small hands so feathering the spool on the cast is tricky when the reel sits too far off the blank.

There's not much you can do before you structurally weaken the reel foot/stem, or you get to the point where it doesn't sit in the reel seat properly and rocks about. You can file down the foot surface, but only a little. Bets bet is to do that and get a smaller reel seat put on your rod, but then a smaller seat is less comfortable.
