I have 3 Shimano Aerino's 2000 and I have had one for over a year, I love them. I have had three wind knots in that time. The drags are awsome and they spred the line on nicely.

I got all mine for under $100.

Shimano symetre is a top rate reel for 140$ but if you want cheaper the shimano sienna 1000fb is 60$, but i would go the symetre, very nice reel go check one out.

I have had a bit of a play with penn applause and can't where you would go wrong with one of these

They are real light but are smooth and have a NICE drag!

Ive just recently got a daiwa kastor, very nice and retails for around $140.Lays the line very nicely, and awesome drag.

Eddy, Did you really find the Penn Appalause light? I was looking at it when I was getting a new reel, and found the heavyness of it the only downside-it felt really to heavy for light spinning.

Shimano Sahara would also be one to look at, very smooth.

Cheers,
nathan

I own both the Daiwa Laguna and Shimano Symetre. I prefer the Symetre, and again over the Penn's. Far lighter, better internals and longer warranty

I love my laguna CHUNQX, its lasted me well over a year of fishing atleast 3 times a week without a servicing and i have dunked it in water a few times by accedent and its still kicking pretty dam well. I think i might buy another one although i feel compelled to spend more money this time round and get something alot higher up but for a first reel and for its price i dont reckon you could go wrong.

Also I have landed 4kg eels over a metre long on it without any trouble at all

Search through the forums on this as its a really over asked topic.

All major brands have their pros and cons. The best thing to do is go into a tackle shop or two and try them yourself on the rod you want to use them on.

I use penn reels and have 3 affinitys. Magic but slightly heavier than the rest. The drags are awesome and the finishes really nice too. Similar features to some of the daiwas. Daiwa are great too and their main downside is the price IMO. Only ever owned one shimano and i wont buy another. But not to say they arent good for you. 10 yr warranty and the fact that they are probably tthe most common reel brand in bream spinning says alot.

Take your time and find whats right for you.
