Daiwas "Air Rotation" ?

Hey, I was justt looking through cambells tackle and when I got to the daiwa Team Daiwa Z, it stated this: "Stop the handle, it stops instantly, exactly where you want it to. It’s what Daiwa calls Air Rotation.™ ". What exactly is this? I mean, is it that when you stop winding it stops intstantly? If this is right, how can this be possible while still being smooth? Also, how could they think of this as a selling point, if this is true? What advantages would it have?Very curious and confused

Cheers,
nathan

I think it is like shimano's super stopper. So after winding there is no backplay as in the bail arm doesnt go back a bit it just stops.

btw it says it has a magnesium rotor. So it probably can't be used in saltwater. By all means correct me if im wrong.

Not all JAP reels are built for "general" fishing that’s why some come with a Mg coating, some come with shallow spools, deep spools ect ect.
Mg Is really light so that’s why they use it for top end reels not just for a marketing pitch.

You will find that the rotor isn’t 100% Mg but it has ''yay'' much mixed in with the metal so you can use it in salt water without any hassle...if looked after correctly of coarse.

cheers, Nathan

Of the 1500 sizes, the sahara weighs 266g, and the kastor weighs 269.So weight isnt going to be the deciding factor here I'm goin into gotone niddrie on saturday to test them out see which one feel better on my rod.The kastor doesnt come with a aluminuim 2nd spool, which the sahara does

i must agreeee guys,
nathan , bream are only a bottom feeding small fish, they arn't going to mess with your tackle a hell of a lot, it's you who will do the most damage to your gear, excessive casting etc. generally the more money you spend on your reel in particular( not saying you need to spend a mill on one) but a good smooth drag, ( big washers) , a bail arm which dosn't flop over on casting, and a handle that won't come loose, is basically what your looking for.
kastors are ok, saharas are better. shimano have a couple of good reels under ( and over ) 200 nugetts which also are quite capable, for bream to barra.

I have a TD-Z and it gets used in saltwater all the time and there isnt even a hint of rust.
Its a powerful and smooth little reel with heaps of drag and hasnt missed a beat since I got it.

Nath18 wasnt being critical of the reel I dont think. It is most likely an alloy of some sort containing Mg. Its actually a good thing that it isnt 100% Mg as then it would probably rust. Also they apparently give Mg reels a saltwater coating to help protect it too.....Anyway whatever they do it works coz mine is fine.

Nathan2003,

Its basically fancy talk for saying its a really smooth reel thats got a really good anti-reverse. The write up for that reel on our site is the info direct from Daiwa.

Thanks Tim, thats all I wanted to know
Bunga,
I wasnt being critical of anything, I was jsut commenting on the fact that Conehead brought up, and that it might not be able to cope with saltwater. that was before I knew it had a coating and It was ok.Chill dude

nathan

By the way, i ended up getting a kastor yeserday, felt better on my rod, and slightly lighter, even though the specs i found suggested that it weighted slightly more than the sahara. The shimano was smoother, but it jsut didnt feel right. Can't wait to try it out

Cheers,
nathan
