okuma avenger 15- 20 wats the diff

IM just looking at buying my first bream set up getting berkley dropshot in 6'6' and i want to start off with an avenger because it one of the cheaper reels out there but what size should i get and is there much of a difference between the two.
cheers leebo.

P.S: if the reel is correctly looked after wat would be the life expectancy for it.

Obviously the Av15 is smaller and lighter than the Av20. If you are only using it for bream the Av15 has enough line capacity. I would go the Av15 soley for the weight difference, it is easier on you wrist after a full day of casting.

Having said that the Av20 is a smoother reel and has better more even line lay. I prefer a lighter reel even with less performance.

An Avenger should last you a good number of years. With frequent use you get the odd part failure due to wear and tear but Freetime will send you the part for free (eg drag knob or bail spring).

how much 6lb fireline would you be able to fit on the av 15 using the principal that 1/3 of the spool is backing leader so i need to fill 2/3 of the reel. thanks for the advice panger.

More than half a 150m spool of pink fireline. That's what I've run on my Av15 and has been more than enough line for bream, flatties, trevs and bass. I probably didn't fill a 1/3 the way with mono though, but it was a decent bed of mono. Also I've heard you can do away with the mono backing if you wrap the fireline 4+ times around the spool before tying your knot. Haven't tried it yet.
