Sustain 5000fd need help please please..

Ok i got given a shimano sustain 5000fd from a old mate to use as a beach a rock spinning reel.

But my problem is the shaft on the inside seems to have bad thread a the handle only screws into the left side a not the right side. So seeing im only right handed im stuffed.

Can i turn the shaft around on this reel? Or what else can i do?

Anything i can do to fix it myself?

Were can i find the sustain schematic diagram?

Cheers a regards

gday Bensonsan
looks like you might have to reorder the drive gear (part 7946), and would cost between $20 - $30 id say

Shimano Sustain 5000Fd

Does it screw directly into the drive train? From what you said that's what i'm thinking. In which case the direction you're screwing the handle in will be the opposite of the other side.

Yep it screws directly into the drive train. And ive tried screwing it in both directions but it dont work. Only screws into the left hand side a thats it.

Just looking at the schematic cheers for that. Would i be able to end for end the drive train? like just turn it around?

If not were can i reorder a new part or get a service?

Also guys thanks very much for your help hey its much apprecitted.

im pretty sure that you cannot turn the part around as there built pretty tightly and it is longer on one side than it is on the other.

Any tackle store that sells shimano stuff should be able to get it in for you, just make sure you know exactly wat you want, if you dont know ask the guys at the store and they should be able to help out. like i said, from your discription it looks like its the drivegear that need replacing.

Cheers Josh
