Quallity versus value?

True story, i just bought a shimano symetre 1500 last week for 140 bucks , it was to replace the shimano sienna 1000fb on my berkley dropshot 7ft2, both are loaded with 4lb fireline, anyway today was my first trip to try it out, the sienna was mated up with my first dropshot a 6ft 8, now the new symetre is very very smooth and has a great drag but you know what? i honestly prefer the sienna!!! its much lighter and smaller and nearly as smooth, the sienna you can buy for 60 bucks and honestly i would rather have the sienna on both rods than the symetre, i read so much on here about "finesse" and really expensive reels ect and to be honest i think i would grab my dropshot 7ft 2 and my sienna over anything else, wierd hey? but that outfit has nailed over 100fish for me and its light and smooth, guess im stuck with a symetre now, the most expensive isnt always the best me thinks.

You never know though, the Symetre may last a little longer than the Sienna.

I think with the Symetre's you are paying for the super slow oscilation. JMO.

Some reels can take a while to wear in....

Go a daiwa and you'll be right

Yeh upgrading but ending up with something heavier really takes the shine off your new purchase. I find myself reaching for my old rods just coz they are lighter and easier to wave around.

That sounds quite right. I've using the trusty old sahara and got my pb bream on it, pb pinkie on it, pb salmon on it, best bream session on it, plus it was given to me by my wife.. I've just gotten a few new upgraded toys since then but I still use my sahara as the first choice of weapon....

Dont get me wrong the symetre is a very nice reel, but like somebody said that little bit of extra weight is off putting, the sienna 1000fb on the 7ft2 is just magic, light, smooth, you know that combo had landed me a stack of fish and i havent lost one yet?.

It does come down to different choices for different poeple
My first reel was a shimano stradic that i bought a few years ago for $220 and a few months later i bought a symetre for $140
its the nicest smoothes reel for me and i would prefer it over my stradic any day.
