Hey guys,
Iv'e looked at a few reels to put on a 7'2'' berkley and I'm just wondering what would be the pick for most people out of either the daiwa regal 4i or a shimano symetre. I have posted up a couple of threads like this and this may be the final decision. Iv'e heard alot of good chatter about the symetre. Pros and cons?

I'll have to ask Rabbitoh about the pieces and that...He seems to know alot about the berkley rods.

Just my opinion, for the $$ Id go the symetre, I used to have one years ago and it was a good little reel, if your leaning towards diawa, dont get anything below a capricorn/something of that level. I've had a few low end diawa's and they dont perform nearly as well as the dearer ones. Your decision though. Also go something a little smaller than 2500. 1500-2000 would suit better.

I'd like to have a 2500 reel for dropshotting the deeper water in PPB and fishing docklands. You need a big reel to pull bream out of there!
Some say you need a whinch!

i am also looking at getting a symetre or a sahara.
i think if u think u need a bigger reel for "whinching" bream you arent using the rod correctly and u will probably end up killing ur reels internals. i have caught 10lb carp on cheap fx 2000 shimanos and they have done the job so i dont think a larger reel is required for breaming jmo. whats the best price u have seen for a symetre? cheers luke |

luke, ryan will be using the reel in the bay often with bigger sps,for salmon, pinkys etc,so the 2500 will suit the application perfectly.

yeh i understand that, i wasnt saying that the 2500 was to big i was just wondering why he thought that a big reel is needed to pull bream from the docks, i personally prefer 2000-2500 size reels but thats just my preference and not to whinch fish.

I think he's not talking about your average bream here.. He's after the bream that you look and go.. "WHOA! Is that a snapper? NO! ITS A MUTANT BREAM!!! Look at the size of its tail alone!!! Its as big as your hand outstretched!"
No kidding, I'd seen one like that from the Docklands that big. Never saw another one that big since but that one was a Horse and a half... |

yeh ur probably right from the stories ive heard about the bream at the docks a larger reel could be needed, but i was just making the point that your rod should be the main force fighting the fish and not the reel. lets get back on track because i have sort of taken over coneheads thread so whats better a symetre or a regal.

Luke, think about it will ya mate? How much line gets reeled onto a 2500 reel and likewise to a 1000?
Say you are fishing docklands and the breams are sticking way...way back up in the dark past a dozen or so pylons and you are fishing say a 1000 size reel with a plastic. You just get smoked twice and you're wondering why your line won't get back to ya even with a plier taightened drag. Then you switch to your 2500 setup with a plier tightened drag and a plastic on it. You cast it out past all the pylons and you finally manage to land a bream! Why do you think that is? It's because yes, more line goes onto the spool when you are retrieveing a lure or fighting a fish! ''TING!'' And yeah you're right Chung I'm looking for polution mutated Breamzillas!
