Question on drag ratings...

The Certate has a max drag rating of 4.0kg. What does that mean? It seems to be higher than anything on the market, even the Stella. Is this good?

......I think the max drag (4kg) is the maximum amount of drag pressure the reel can exert.......The Airity has similar max drag pressure ratings....

From memory......I think most diawa reels have 4kg max drag ratings. Certate, Airity, Caldia Kix, Luvias.......

hi mate,

most of the newer daiwa reels from the more expensive range have a drag of about 4 kilos. Shimano reels would generally have a 2 kilo max drag. To be honest for the small sizes u are looking at, you wouldn't exactly be running the reel on 4kilos of drag. The only time which you would really max the drag is either u are about to be burst off in a snag or when u are fishing racks and letting the fish take 1cm of line means death to another lure. Many people really underestimate their settings. For instance for a 6lb line u would use 2lb drag. If anyone who has tried setting their drags with a scale would know that 2lb of drag is pretty substantial. For most of us using 4 to 6lb fireline. One still wouldn;t use 4 kilos worth of drag.

regards
Darryl
