Anyone used a Shimano twinpower?

There are quite a few of you using the Luvias, are there anyone here who's used the twinpower (japanese version of the sustain)? How does that compare to the Luvias or the Stradics even?

hi mate,

the twinpower is a lighter reel and has a faster retrieve rate. The drag is 2 kilos and is much much smoother compared to a stradic or a sustain. I am may be a daiwa fan but i love my twinpower. In my opinion if i ever wanted a shimano spinning reel I would take a twinpower. Much much cheaper than a stella but performs faultlessly. The only thing i feel shimano should improve would be that the spool would have corrosion spots if u dun take gd care of the reel. A little TLC is all that is needed to maintain in. Wash the reel properly and oil and grease is all u need.

The luvias feels much more solid and i believe is slightly heavier. The gears feel solid and have a slower retrieve rate. The drag is 4 kilos. It is just as smooth and is indeed a value for money reel. never regretted buying my luvias.

there are 3 main reels which i use when i fish and they are the certate, luvias and the twinpower. In my opinion, they are all great reels and to make ur decision, just try playing with all three and feel which one suits u best. Personally i feel they are all fab reels to own and u wouldn't regret them one bit.

regards
Darryl

It comes down to money, I've ruled the Certate out for myself because I was thinking of getting either the luvias or the twinpower and then a 3rd Loomis rod with the extra money saved from not getting the Certate. I've not heard much about the twinpower but the Luvias seems to have a negative against it being the roller bearing gets noisy after some use.

How many of you think that the twinpower is an overpriced, over-glorified Stradic and not really worth the extra money for it?

And how many vehemently disagree with that previous statement and the extra money's well spent?

well Chunqx,

both reels have the similar problems with the bailarm bearing. One way to fix it is to oil the bearing and then pump grease into the bearing. Make sure it is well packed with grease. This would reduce the sound and rust produced in the bail arm.

The reason why there is a problem with the bearings is because of the saltwater entering the bailarm. So just regularly oil andgrease the bail arm bearing and you'll be fine. To me the twinpower is a much much better reel compared to the sustain or the stradic. Although it is a jap model of teh sustain, i kinda of feel it is unfair to compare them. Sustain is a great reel but I feel twinpower is a fab reel comparable to a stella with less bearings and class. It does the job well enuff to make me reach for it often.

regards
Darryl

Twinpower a over glorified stradic? no way. stradic dont even come close to twinpower. stradic is heavier. stradic looks crap. stradic doesnt have the machince cut handle. stradic looks crap. stradic has less bb. twinpower has the old stella body. twinpower has better gears. twinpower is stronger. stradic looks crap

I disagree Dan...

I own a stradic and it's a damn sexy lil' reel and it is very/just as light compared to many other shimano reels!

My mate owns an Ultegra 1000 and it feels exactly the same as my Stradic. IMO the stradic 1000/2500 have almost the exact weight as biomasters, sustains and twinpowers.

in your opinion the stradic 1000 is the same weight as twinpower 1000, but its not really

ultegra 1000- 210g (jap)
stradic 1000 - 225g (aussie/us)
biomaster 1000- 205g (jap)
sustain 1000- 222g (aussie/us)
twinpower 1000- 195g (jap)
twinpower 1500 mg - 205g (bigger reel + 0.5kg more drag then the 1000s...) (jap)
stella 1000ar- 180g (jap)
stella 1000fb- 190g (aussie/us)

as u can see, the stradic 1000 is the heaviest of the 'higher' quality shimano 1000size reels, closley follwed by the sustain 1000.

as u can also see, the jap reels are all lighter then their US/Au model
