Just me being nosey but how many of you have landed a bream over the magic 2kg mark on lure or fly ?

ps; Im not a member of this elite club yet

I landed one for my mate, took photos of it then had to jump out the boat to rescue and revive it. But I suppose that dont count, it is a magical figure isn't it.

Sure is madfish & and your neck of the woods would be a great place to get your first one. (The comp was my first time down there but it wont be the last.

Well nearly,

On lure 1.9kg
On fly 2.1kg
On bait 5lb 3oz (what ever the hell that is in metric).

There definately is 3 kg fish in the river. Most of them reside in the lower reaches, Freshwater Bay, Mosmans Bay, Biction, Nedlands etc.

A mate of mine Tony Thwin caught a brute of a fish that dwarfed a 2 kg fish I landed 2 minutes earlier. In a 26 litre esky its stomach and back were touching the sides, it's head was against one end while it's tail was curled up the other. Must have gone 6 1/2 lb easy. That was about 9 years ago.

The unfortunate thing Bear was that we kept those fish hoping to have moulds made, but at the time it was very difficult to locate someone. I have photos of the 1.9kg fish, and I must retreive the photo of the 5 lb 3 oz it's hanging in a tackle shop brag board.

Unfortunatly they are rare these days, and Ray Band from Urban Angler Vic Park also has some photos of monsters as you may have allready seen.

But one can never stop trying hey!!

3kg's sounds good, now how do we get tow rope through the eyes of a spin stick.

Would love to see the pics Madaff. Something to aim at for sure.

Just curious, were they winter or summer fish.

The bigger ones seem to be around more in the winter, or am I wrong??

Hey guys,
ive landed a few fish on both lures and bait, that have come very close, with lengths over 45cm. I have no scales so i can't be sure but i've been bloody close.
One person i know who has is Fisherman Josh. He has caught three to my knowledge, all on bait, and i was there for all of them. They were monsters!!!

Two were caught on the same day! One was on my rod, which was a baitcaster with 10lb fireline and the thing was still pulling line!!!

maduff.....5lb 3oz is 2.35kg.

thats a monster!!

my best was 42cm fork and full of roe...around the 1.3kg mark

I've never heard of guys taking moulds. I gather they then get painted.

How do they turn out??

Hey Bear,
the fish are definately bigger in winter. All the fish i spoke about above were in winter.
The fish just seem to be so much fatter in winter. the difference is really noticable! It is interesting that people don't mention it more often, as i have really noticed it!

I just need to rescan them and I will, I have the photo of the 1.9kg and 5lb fish but the 2.1kg fish I was on my own shorebased and travelling light. So no pic of that one. The one in my avatar went 1.8kg and there were heaps of them. (Blackwood river) all others in the Swan of course.

Early spring produces most of my larger fish, as they are in great condition. Autum to the start of winter and there is normaly lots around. However getting past the smaller agressive ones is the challenge.

They would have turned out great, we were meant to take them to the museum to be done, but never eventated. Thats why I said unfortunatly we kept them other back they would have gone.

Im am yet to get tothat magical mark and I definately havnt caught anything to big on lure.... yet

M ybiggest to date is 35cm on lure and 41cm measured on bait (but a have caught 2 bigger bream in the one day but were never measured or weighed but maybe 46cm 1.4kgish. Still waiting for the day
