Quite a few people have had issues with Vanish particularly with it breaking easily when tying knots. I have also experienced this a while back. I however got some new spools last year and have never had an issue since. Pretty confident in the Vanish now.

If you are after the 'good stuff' I would go for Nitlon or Yamatoya. Vanish is however much much cheaper and does a good enough job OK for me. I'm talking about the normal spools of Vanish here. Have never tried the small leader Vanish spools but for that price I would rather buy Nitlon.

I have used 8lb vanish without a problem, and have landed several flathead over 80cm on it. Cheers

8lbs Vanish is ok (just), 6 lbs is a no-no.
Very weak at the knot.

Cheers,
Alex

In boxhill Compleat Angler, Mamoi's is 9.95 for 25m, but it's VERY abrasion resistant, so you shouldn't get busted off too often, even on some of the lighter grades. I used to use 5lb and never had any problems.

Is Nitlon readily available from most shops or only from Compleat?

I bought mine from the Cranbourne tackle over the phone using credit card. Very happy with this stuff (I got 8 and 10 lbs).

Talk to Jarrod, he is very helpful.

Cheers,
Alex

I have only recently changed from Vanish main line (not leader material) to Momois as a leader so take what i have written with a grain of salt

Mamoi is much tougher than vanish and I havent had a leader knot bust since I started using it (5 sessions). I'll probably have 10 knots give way tommorrow but Up until now I have been very impressed with its quality -

I was instantly UN-impressed with vanish 6lb (main line). The 8lb is not so bad probably just coz its thicker.

Momoi's is very expensive - many times more expensive than Vanish (main line not their leader material). But once the money is spent and you are comparing the products with out taking price into consideration the momoi's is far superior.

One thing about momoi's is that is has more memory than vanish. But you can work that out with a bit of pre-stretching of your leader before you cast.

P.s. when I say "Vanish" I am NOT refering to the leader material they sell - I am talking about the main line flouro carbon they sell in 6 and 8lb 250 yard spools for $22.95. I havent been able to get my hands on the Vanish Leader material to test. The purpose built leader material is much more expensive than their main line
