you will find that it is usually the sp that scares them, docklands fish are very very finicy, ususally they DohDohDohDoh themselves at just about anything casted ina 2km radius of them.....but you will get the odd on on paddle tails using light heads areound the 1gm mark and a 6pd fluro leader

There is a very noticeable difference between different pound lines in the docklands. Switching to flouro carbon is another step in the right direction. Been down as low as 2lb but am currently using 6lb.

BE QUIET! both of you's!
I'm better than you both! I have caught two so-far in the dockland's. One awesome trevally and that monster bream you have all seen in the recent pic's thread, that was caught with a 6lb vanish leader. You ask yellow door 1. He'll tell ya' how much damage it did to the tackle. There was cracked rod varnish, loose fuji guide's, frayed line, bent jig-head, torn plastic and I even had a fireline burn which has just healed on my index finger! Just joking Stuart and Ren! But technically, Stuart has caught a bream in the dockland's because he used to ''bait'' fish there. Fishing in the dockland's is hard enough as it is, so we don't realy need any competition. Cheers, Ryan |

Hey Ryan,
You still beating the docks? You tried walking up the Yarra lately? It's cleared up a little, and there are fish, just smaller than you might like. I tried St. Kilda some time last week, and it was flat as a mill pond, so I gave up after about an hour. So damned quiet that matchstick sized bait was schooling out in the open and weren't being harrassed by anything bigger than 20cm. I'm thinking they were either juvenile couta, or pike. There were garries too, but I didn't have any bait on me, so i left them alone. I had one hit from a toadie, which snipped the tail off my bass minnow. All in all, quite dissappointing. Went out just now as well, with my dad down to Newport. Supposedly, someone had caught a mulloway around there on a bass minnow, and I saw one good 'boof'. But, as you might've guessed, nothing. Anyway, cheers for now, Owen

How's it going Owen? Yeah, I have been trying the dockland's but you know, it will eventually get better during the holiday's over summer. I havn't realy heard ,any report's from the yarra lately at all, so I guess your 'info' is pretty helpful.
I tried St. Kilda pier a few week's ago with another friend and he got roasted by a meanie on a small bloodworm squidgy wriggler! A few small sambo's were busting up the surface a bit, but nothing apart from that unfortunately. I also gave the ''hottie's'' a bash last week, but there realy wasn't anything being caught over 10 cm!P.S would you mind giving me a PM for your mobile #no? I have lost it! Silly me. Any more luck from your trip at Devonport?

There are still plenty of fish to be had in the city .Fished christmas eve on the high tide and managed 5 decent breambos in a 45min session. Biggest fish was 38cm, the rest were all in the 30/32 range .Also got busted up by about 6 other fish. These fish were not caught on plastics. All fish were caught measured and released to fight another day. What was that you mentioned about "Devenport" , Conehead. I will be making the journey over there this week and need a pointer or two on spots for Bream Fishen. If you could let me know where ,it would be much appreciated.

I was talking about Piscineidiot's recent trip to Devonport. (Tasmania). If you are fishing the dockland's with bait, try live bass yabbie's inside the ''yellow'' door area and also in the ''new'' quay area. Alot of smaller fish are around, but I have seen some monster's lately which would be well over the 40 cm mark. I have a witness to prove it!
I have almost given up ''plasticing'' in the dockland's as it is almost impossible to catch a fish. I have heard rumour's of one angler catching 8 fish on plastic's in one session!

Hi crabcrusher,
I don't know much about breaming at Devonport, supposedly they're there...But I can give you a few pointers for other species. If you're going out at night, try the floating platform on the same side of the Spirit of Tassie. Once it's dark, the lights'll be on, and they attract some reasonable yellow-eye mullet, which are more than willing to take plastics. Cast off the concrete reinforcements TOWARDS the platform. Plenty of fish in that space. Berley up a little, you don't really need to, but it'll bring some other fish around. There are little rock cod and reasonable squid there too. The odd little sambo's always a chance. There's a good spot at Port Sorell too, if you're willing to drive about 20 minutes. There's a short pier, then a floating platform. Doesn't look like much, but there are almost always fish there cos it's a nice little gutter. Mostly small sambos, with a few small flathead, but they're still great fun on plastics. I got one plastic minced by something that MIGHT have been a leatherie, but I still can't be sure... Anyway, that's all the advice I can offer you for Devonport. Good luck to you. Oh yes, there's a good rock spot on a bluff with a lighthouse nearby. Cast off the rocks with a reasonably sized plastic and you're in for a chance with a wrasse, or a BIG sambo if you're really lucky. If you're feeling desperate, bait works well there, I think bluebait was doing best for them. Conehead, whatever luck I've had, you've heard about it, and I'm back in Melbourne anyway, so I'm kinda feeling shocked from the bad fishing... Cheers, Owen
