Angry Vanish= Lost fish

Not sure anyone has had similar experiences recently, as I heard the vanish coming in at the moment is okay, but my brand new 250yd spool of 6lb vanish is crap. Scuse my french.

The strength is fine when there is no knot in it but once you tie a knot, it snaps like cotton.

I used to use uni to unis for leader to fireline, now use double uni's and it still breaks. I use the improved clinch onto jigheads with two turns through the eye of the hook and it breaks just as easy. I thought it was just my fireline being twisted etc but when I tried some of my friends 8lb nitlon, the double uni's held firm.

Since this afternoon I have used it as backing on my okuma. What else could I use it for... who else has complaints about the stuff?

No prob here

lm with Don, caught a nice 1.1 kg on 6lb vanish on flats the other day and as to the knot problem u really must give knots a good pull before u use them .lf they snap its a good chance it was due to a poorly tied knot or one theat has recieved to much friction whislt being tied.

As for this so called bad batch thing surely the quality control stepped in before to much line was made fualty. We are talking about a major company and lm sure ther enot trying to off load fautly product on there consumers it makes no sense

All l can suggest if give your knots plenty of lube (saliva) and a good test of knot stength before u try to land a fish with it

I cant fault Vanish leader. I think the stuffs fantastic.

I use 6lb for all my Breaming and have never had any problems with it.

I'v pulled a 41cm fish on the stuff (6lb) with ease.

Id say its just a bad batch...

Send it back to the store and replace it.

cheers, Nathan

bad batch of vanish???

Brad, I've got the same problem the 6lb vanish as well. Always breaks at the knot, doesn't matter what knot I try it always snaps well below the breaking strain! Haven't used vanish since.

i recently bought a spool of 17lb vanish for shallow reef fishing and am very dissapointed with it. Mine wasn't always breaking at the knot either, it was more like halfway down the leader. To make matters worse it was breaking on skippy less than a kilo in weight go figure

Ive always heard good reports about the vanish so I haven't been put off the product entirely but it seems as though there a few dodgy batches getting around.

Vanish is the only leader I have in my box.

I have found it is a bit more sesitive to poorly tied knots, mainly when I am in a hurry but other than that I cant fault it.

Thanks guys.

I tried the improved albright when I got home and lubed it really well but still no joy. It happens on all knots I tie. I'm going to get some nitlon cos I know it works. Sorry to leave all the vanish users possibly a bit frightened but I need to be able to land a big fish when it jumps on.

I had problems with 6 lb vanish and lost a big trout and told myself never again!
Now I am using 8 lb and so far no probs.

I like the idea of using 6 lb as a backing though

Cheers,
Alex

I have been using the same spool of 6lb Vanish for the last year, and have had not probs. But then I have not had any monsters on. From the sounds of it, quality control on the vanish is pretty crap. I can remember last year when BM was replacing a delivery of Vanish because it was DohDohDohDoh.
