yep thats it.. I think the guy in the vid makes a comment to the effect "if a couple of the half hitches come loose it doesn't matter ..." ...

I always make sure that I end with a couple that go the opposite direction i.e. forward hitch ending with a reverse hitch but yeah thats it ..... haven't had an issue yet ... was just going to keep an eye on it and retie if I can see the hitches coming lose.

Up to very recently I was always double-uni but after learning and testing the fg from the above vid I'm pretty pleased with it.

10 half hitches (alternating ways) around the main line and leader, trim the leader tag and burn. 5 more half hitches (alternating) up the mainline alone, one final half hitch with the line passed through twice. Make sure you pull every half hitch tight.

I always seal the tag snipt with a lighter, heat up the light tip and just touch the line on the metal...never had one slip.

Thats where i get it wrong, somehow when i pass the line through twice i mess it up real bad. so im going the right way then, just need more practice

i dont trust myself with the lighter and burning the leader, so not going to attempt that

cheers

Put a lot of spit on the whole knot and then burn the tags, bit of insurance to save burning your knot at the end.

I hate all the half hitches at the end of the knot- If all the half hitches are there for, is to stop the tag unraveling, I dont get why I have to do so many.

Why cant you just do one or 2 hitches and put a dab of super glue or clear nail polish on the knot.

I've heard glues can damage the flouro carbon but I'm not sure of this.

I've done it with 30lb braid and 20lb leaders but I'd be scared to do it on breamtackle.

Does anyone know if a dab of glue will damage flouro carbon or braid

The hitches really just protect the end of the knot - a couple may shake loose so half a dozen is probably worth it. No reason to go to the trouble of glue. I use 4lb Nanofil down to 3lb leader - I know many struggle with Nano but the FG works very well with it.

Just to let uno I used to get frustrated with half hitches coming loose and not looking like a finished knot. Spoke to my local fellas and advised me you dont have to trim flush with the braid have continued same steps with leaving 3-4mm braid tagg end and never had another problems no fraying and never had a catch....

best knot by far

exactly If i was fishing for kings or GT'S i might go for some added security a la bargeass but never had a problem even without using the lighter.
