The fg knot is the slimmest/strongest knot I tie, however it is a massive pain in the arse to tie. I use long leaders and I generally tie a slim beauty. I'm normally using 4lb leader and the knots are small enough to pass through micro guides. Make sure you trim the tags a close to the knot as possible to prevent line getting caught o the knot as it sits on the spool, a drop of superglue can help smooth the knot too.
Cheers Corey

Go for the slim beauty mate. Relatively easy to tie gets through the guides easily and i have never had it fail on me.

More often than not I run a 4 to 5 metre leader.
I've used the slim beauty for years, works for me.

Will the Slim Beauty slip through micro guides easily in the lighter line classes?

I love the slim beauty as well, although now I mainly use the version that has a uni knot in the braid. Kaneit knot I think? Just find it easier to tie on the run.

Slim beauty if I'm tying the leader on at home or in camp. Albright if I have to tie it on the 'yak. Just find the SB a bit fiddly on the water, esp. if I'm wearing sunnies and not my prescription glasses.
Either work with micro-guides, but the mono tag points the "wrong" way (forwards) on an albright, so trim it really short. (Make sure the knot is cinched up tight first!) |

I also run my leader at 4-5 m. I have always tied an Albright. I used to have problems with it. Till I did it how Tim Morgan dose it. In his words the dirty knot. 6 times down and 9 times up. Ever sins I started tying it that way it has bin perfect. Hope this helps. Cheers Chris.
