Glenelg river leaders
Hey guys, going to the Glenelg with the hobie this weekend and wondering, what leader should I use with 2lb and 4lb platypus braid. I already have 6lb Vanish transition, and 8 and 4lb Jinkai. Is this fine? It is pretty hard structure at glenelg so is 6 suitable? Also, how is it fishing at the moment? HB, sp's, vibes, high or low reaches, and is the mouth shut?

Most of our fish came on soft plastics. To be honest it was very tough, fish had shut down and although we sounded up plenty of fish they just wouldn't take anything we presented to them. Hopefully you have more luck in the yak. |

Sorry mate I haven't got a pic for you. We found the fish sitting in over 15ft if water smack bang in the middle of the river. Obviously the recent rain and moved them off the edges. We were using a down imaging sounder so that made the job of finding fish all that much easier.

Definately go as light as you think you can get away with over there at the moment. I fish it a lot and always start with 4lb. If you are having difficulties landing fish you can go up to 6 but I have noticed the increased bites using 4lb instead of 6 when there are a few boats about. If you tie good knots 4lb should be good for the most part. I haven't fish the river since before last weekend. Before the comp the fish were right up hard against the edges and I had a ball skipping unweighted plastics to them. We also had some pretty good surface bites early in the morning ![]() Sounds like they might have changed a bit since then with the rain we have had. I'll be over there Friday morning so might be able to give you a bit more info after that. Good luck and I hope you find a few! |

I generally fish 5lb there and stick with it. You can go lighter but there is a difference from 4-5lb when you do hook a goo perch hard on the cliffs or near a tree. I havnt found it to effect catch rate too much but you will get away with 3 and 4lb no worries.

![]() I think at this time of year the most important thing is to get on the water really early and have a good session under your belt before the sun gets too high in the sky and a lot of boats get on the water

Ah, probably a perch that demolished me in the logs last year? Or a little mully. Never saw that baby vibe again either way... Haha.

Prob not the best time to be going mate, we just had the Vic Bream round there with 50 boats hitting the place. Very shut down mate but i'm no expert on Nelson so it could switch back on i guess. Best of luck. Nothing wrong with 4lb mate, we were using 3-4lb all weekend.

I fish 5 or 6lb, 5lb for below wilson hall and 6lb for above, have also been smoked by perch on 15lb at times so when using 4-6lb a lot of luck is involved
