Stiff or light rod - which go you prefer

Got me thinking guys. With all this talk about rods, I'm curious to know what people prefer.

I like to let the rod do a lot of the work and go for a light rod. My main 2 rods are a Shakespeare Intrepid Titanium IM-7 and a Mitchell Excellence E56LS.

Let us know what you use and why

G'day Bear,

at the moment I use a shimano stella which I reckon is faily stiff and good to work hardbodies...I have been using this one for plastics aswell but after having a cast of a Strudwick TPS 6ft
1-3kg I'm getting myself one of these, the accuracy and feel of these is great.
I've never cast a plastic as accurate as I did when flicking this about, it almost feel's like an extention of your hand (so to speak)
I'll be using this one for soft plastics and for the time being keep using the stella for hardbodies,I just find the stiffness in this better for twiching them.

Cheers,
Dave

Davo, I highly recommend the Strudwick TPS. I purchesed the 6'6" model about 1.5 months ago and I honestly dont know how I ever made do without it

Bear, I usually prefer a lighter, slower rod although the Strudwick is a Medium-Slow action. I previously (or still do) have a Redington RDX which is very slow and I loved using it

Cheers
Matt

G'day

I have 2 ugly sticks, and an FMT72 L . If I am fishing snags I use a stiff rod so I can do a Dave W and drag them out! but over sand flats I use the softer rods and enjoy the fight. The stiff rod Drag them out style of snag fishing really gets the adrenalin pumping!!!!! But having a good bream strip off10 to 20 meters of light line across a flat is great fun!!!!!! I just love fishing!!!!!!!

lol..... I've got a fishing technique named after me????

Gotta admit, I love the sound of the line when you're locked up tight to a fish..ting,ting,ting.... just hoping it doesn't pop and stiffer rods are the only way to go for this style of fishing.

A softer rod may only give away a foot or less on the strike - but a foot can mean the difference between landing a fish and embarassing defeat

Ahhh the good old FMT72L, how many fish have I caught on one of those over the years :-)
I still have one and use it regularly, it lack the authority of some of the graphite blanks, but is still very useful with light baits and lures. A classic blank if ever there was one.
