Strength versus diameter ???

Hi all,

I just picked up some Maxima Perfexion Clear 6lb line (non-flourocarbon) - the only reason I got it was that the diameter is 0.20mm, a shitload thinner than any flourocarbon in the same weight that I've got.

I was just wondering if anyone's had a crack with it, or, what you currently use and the diameter

I'll just go down to the tackle bag and put some other breaking strain/diameter figures up

Cheers,

Allright:

Master mono (non-flouro) 7lb 0.25
Siglon Flouro leader material 7lb 0.235
Siglon Flouro leader material 4lb 0.18
Berkley Vanish (normal line - not leader) 8lb 0.25

I can't find my other bag with some more in it (too many beers
)

What you got??

How about a sample for some in-depth field testing

(and I meant the pun about 'in-depth')

Do they do a 6 or 4lb Warren, and if so do you know the diameter??

heres what i use :-

stren magnathin 8lb .22mm

stren magnathin 12lb .28mm

siglon tough 8lb .185mm

still trying to find some decent fluoro

when i started flyfishing, all those years ago, when making up a leader it was all based on diameter not breaking strain. interesting how it gets mentioned every now and then

cheers pete

I use platil soft universal which is a bit thicker. 6pound and .23mm.
Although i find that it is a great line for nots and all round use.
Cheap aswell!!

Hi.

I am currently using the Penn Powerline 12lb. I had been using Platil Ghost Fluorocarbon but found it very hard - great abrasive resistance but difficult to tie knots as I would like. And it's damned expensive.

I've found the Penn to be excellent - good abrasion resistance, pliable enough to make knot tying easy and nowhere near as expensive.

I'll be getting the lighter type from here very soon.

Best of all, no leader problems since I have been using it.

Wink

gidday fellas ive been using YO-ZURI HYBRID flurocarbon [smoke colour]6lb 0.10'' diameter.

tough as nails yet so supple it ties nots real easy. double uni to main "fireline" uni to jig head.

when snagged i just pull the main line and either the jig bends out or takes alot of pressure to break it at the lure or jig.
