Minn Kota Maxxum battery life???

Hey guys just a quick question, what sort of battery life do you guys get from your minn kota maxxums?? Obviously different batteries will last longer etc, currently im running 2 ritvas gel mat valve regulated batteries and previously on my 55 pound riptide on max power was getting around 8 hours leaving about 15% charge in the batteries have now changed to a Maxxum 80 pounder and am wonder what I should expect ??

Depends which maxxum you have, if you got the model with the digital maximiser it will be better than the standard model. Either way you will get more than you did with a riptide as all the batteries power is the prop and the small LED on the head, no servos etc like the riptide.

Insane man they are so good, once you get used to the change its wicked way more battery life and way faster than the riptide and a hell of a lot more reliable too just need to figure out if it needs an anode or not. Anyone know whether it is essential to have one on these maxxums if you use it in salt water or not ??

I dont have one on mine, just give it a real good was out after you use it. I just take my boat to the car wash and give it a good blast with the pressure washer, no sign of any corrosion yet, no guarantees though.

From my experience with Fortrex 80 lbs the motor unit started corroding fairly badly no matter how thorough we were washing it with fresh water. Putting the anode had definitely slowed the corrosion process. So, yes I would highly recommend fitting one in. For its price I reckon it's a very cheap solution to reduce the corrosion.
If I knew, I would have fitted it since new.
Cheers

You havent mentioned what capacity batteries you have. This is what you should be considereing. Considering a 55lb maxium will draw a maximum amperage fo 55amps at full power you would want a minimum capacity of 130 amp. For am 80lb unit i'd think 2 100amp unit should suffice. Correct me if im wrong but the 80lb units are 24v are they not. Either way you will need 2 12v batteries to support this setup to get 24v.

As a side note discharging your batteries to 15% is never a good idea. A 50% depth of discharge will ensure a healthy battery and the maximum duty cycles from your units.
