Great work by Bill to change the date of the GF. Would have been a real shame fishing in October.
Really opens up the playing field by having it late november, fish will be spread out through the whole system. Really looking forward to it, especially after spending the abt on the weekend just gone dodging other boats and trying to keep fish alive in the livewells. Havent seen anything like it before. The fish were healthy enough but they were either floating or swimming on their sides.

Can you elaborate on this spanito
Was it the fresh water, the cold or something else that had them in this condition?

It's probably from the sinkers in their guts

I'm no genius on the matter, but I am pretty sure it was due to the fact that there was so much fresh water pushing down the system. The only thermocline I found on the weekend was up river and it was down 8m.
The intake on the livewells is only taking water off the surface hence the fish being so buoyant.

I have to put my hand up as one of the guys who voted against a date change.

My main reason is

My fishing partner, Richie, can not attend that weekend. He has a family holiday booked to Tasmania at that time every year.

It is extremely disappointing for me, Richie, and our sponsors, that Team Club Marine may not attend. However, I am free to compete that weekend.

Bill is doing his best to find another partner for me, but in the event that he doesn't, ...... If Bill said that it was OK for me to compete with someone else (possibly someone who has not qualified) would any guys competing have objections?

Hey mate, I honestly feel for you and your fishing partner. I would have been similarly disappointed if it were me in the same situation.

Last minute cancellations are always not easy to deal with, especially with other commitments to the family.

I would not have any problems for you competing with someone else as a team at GF providing Bill gives you guys all clear.

Good luck,
Alex

heh Tom, wouldn't worry me at all although there are a few guys that have qualified and are not fishing as far as I know, may be an option. I did sound out Nath McKernan as Mick my partner is in China on the original date. Mick can fish the new dates with the blessing of his wife. Problem is the Sunday is his FIRST wedding anniversary !!!

At this stage I am hopeful that Bill can find me a partner who has qualified, although it must me a bit of an administrative nightmare for him.

I'm just sounding things out just in case he can't find anyone. Sort of my own straw poll as to how other competitors would feel, given the circumstances, about me fishing with a partner who hasn't qualified.

Hey Tomd..I'm fishing the GF and have no abjections to you fishing with a qualified or non qualified partner. These are unique circumstances so common sense needs to prevail. Good luck find a suitable partner and I'm sure Bill is doing his best.
