I would definately say that the low pressure front that came through was a definate factor. Fish know that it is coming but generally i dont think they would know the extent so feed up before it hits and then skulk for a time afterwoods.
I dont know about other guys but of the 30 odd fish we caught only a very small portion were hooked in the traditional way, leading us to believe that the fish werent feeding as such but it was more of a territorial reaction bite, with a lot of hookups on the belly, side of head, top of head etc. And we dropped more fish than normal, which would confirm the above. As for changing times etc, i would agree with craig there is a lot more involved than just rocking up.

The times have been the same now for 10 years. In the one or 2 comps that the times were changed people came back an hour late forgetting the time! Graham Green at the Blackwood in 2004 is one that comes to mind.
The times are not to suit the fish they are to suit the organisers (and rightly so!).

A lot of people will say i dont know what im on about but i reckon it has a lot to do with the dredging at the moment down freo and the dirty water getn pushed up with the tides dont know if people noticed that the water was extremely dirty and why, it wasnt anything like that this time last year. jmo

theres been alot of talk from perth inshore fisherman and theyve been struggling with the ploom thats spread accross the ocean in that area. i guess it was only a matter of time that it might start to affect the swan.
the group that gave the heads up to dredge the river were confident that it wouldnt have any enviromental effects so lets hope theyre right ![]() although personaly ive noted that fishing the week before a neap tide ive struggled to pull fish on a number of occasions. i dont expect the comp times to change as how they are atm is suitable for everyone from mandurah to perth competitors and organisers who most importantly give their efforts to put these events together. so i cant really complain what the fishing is on the day, thats just comp fishing and the challenge it puts forward to everyone.

One major thing that is different to previous years is the lack of summer rains. Perhaps the fish are further up river than usual. If people were only going as far up as Ron Courtney island then perhaps that wasn't far enough. Just a thought.
