How to POP?

Hey guy’s ive been going out fishing alot lately and im determined to catch a bream on a popper im using a river 2 sea popper. I have had a few follows but no luck. I just wanted to no the correct technique for pooping for bream. The current technique i am using is a slow pop and then pauses of 10-15 sec and like 10 pops in-between pauses am i doing this correct. I am land based and fishing flats.

Cheers Dave

10-15 seconds is a long time...I'd maybe shorten it to 5 seconds or so...but I'm no expert on surface fishing

Theres a lot of different techniques which work for different people.
What I find works for me is more of an aggresive popping action. Noting i am fishing from a boat. I use short sharp downward jabs of the rod tip. A very long cast and I like to start my retrieve the moment the lure hits the water. I will begin with this aggresive action for about 10 - 15 meters then a stop pause for around 5 seconds followed by a slower continues popping action. If I get a looker or a strike I will stop the retrieve to entice a strike. If no action I will slightly twitch the lure on the surface momentarily before continuing with my original retrieve.
I hope this helps a bit. I can't speak for other people but this is the most effective retrieve for me.

I like to mainly use River 2 sea Poppers, Strike pro and The new Bushy popper

Good luck

Mitch

well i love popping for bream. firstly ive learnt that it works alot better at dawn ad dusk. my technique is to cast as long as i can at about a 45 degree to the shoreline. when the lure hits the water i let it sit for about 3-5 seconds because often times it may land right next to a bream and he will see it and smash it. when using a popper you are trying to imitate a scared or fleeing prawn or baitfish so keep this in mind when using a popper. in still water i use a very gentil popping retrieve whilst pausing it for about 3 seconds after about 4-7 popps. in windy conditions i use a louder more aggressive poping retrieve as the bream cant here or find the popper as easily. the other da i learnt that when a bream hits the popper and then you dont see it agian often he will stil be their so what i do is i stop it for about 5 seconds then i just move it very very very slightly like so it just moves the smalest bit (as smaller move as you possibly can do) and most times the bream will smash it. when you have a bream that is just smashing it time after time but you cant hook it you shouldnt strike even if it like fully engulfs it. point your rod tip towards the bream and wait for the fish to just load up because often times when you strike you will either pull the lure out of the fished mouth or he will miss it as the lure will not be in the fished mouth for very long. jus let him have it. im learnt all this from a very experiencedd angler and he can second at last years bream grand final so this is not just a load of crap

ive never really used a popper on bream, but im sure they work, especially the R2S 35mm. But when i use em ( usually on barra ) i do 3 pops, wait 5 secs. Sumtimes i do less pops but that works on barra, but im not an expert with bream. Hope i helped, cya!

im with BB7, using a lot of the Strike Pros of late, fairly high stick slow retreive and very light twitch to get it to pop every 3-4 turns of the handle, i tend not to use them in sloppy water if i can help it and the majority of fish i have caught i have seen following..when i get a nose right up hehind i pop nd stll, and 9 / 10 time i get a strike...

MUNCH !

well i normally fish the flats for whiting and when the tide gets high enough i fish in between the scatted mangroves for bream.
I do a long cast and let it sit for about 20 seconds because alot off the time the bream come over to it and either hit it or just sit underneath it.
The i do 2 or 3 stort sharp pops and then let it sit for about 5 seconds and repeat.
have you tryed walk the dog lures ?
I recon they work better then poppers and i use px45,toardi,red peppers and the list goes on.

cheers BK
