Some thing new

Hi Guys,
recently we at R2S were asked by a group of guys who chase whitting on poppers, for 35 and 45 Bubble popper in just plain clear plastic (no colour on them at all) I was lucky enough to get a hold of some samples to try out.
The main thing I found with them was not only did the whitting like them but bream as well!. So hopefully they will be availabe in shops before Xmas or shortly there after, all I have to do now is convince the Boss to get me a few in barra lures

Cheers Samurai

What depth of water were the whiting hitting them??

Very interested as I love popper fishing....

Got some great whiting and KG spots in relative shallow water so keen to find out.

Did only the clears work or were other colours successful?

Thumbs up It works

Interesting topic, as a matter of fact we have been scratching the paint off the 35s, and then using my fly tying gear, putting pink bucktail and some gold glitter on the treble. It seems to focus the fish's attention on the pointy end - or maybe we are just being optimistic. This is great news and I look forward to using them....

They do hit coloured poppers. Friends have claimed to have caught them (I haven't seen first-hand but can't confirm). But I guess I thought a less of a profile in the water might be less intimidating. I was thinking that maybe you only need size and bulk (in the lure) to do two things. Allow you to cast, and to create disturbance on the surface. So if the popper is clear, perhaps it means you can throw a bigger lure further, create more of a disturbance to attract more fish but not have the bulk of the larger lure that could put the fish off. The problem is I didn't throw a solid colour popper at the same time as the clear ones, so it is hard to tell. But the last two times we have fished top water we have thrown clear poppers with pink bits and everytime we have seen fish under them, the fish have hit. Last season when I was throwing poppers around there were numerous occassions when fish had a look, but didn't hit. Now this could be more to do with the fish than the lure, but the lure is the only thing we can control so at the mo I'm really liking the clear popper with the pink bits. The segment on the Fishing DVD#8 that Starlo did seemed to cover it pretty well.

Thumbs up Flatties also like them.

Your on the money with these!
My cousin's huband sent me a few from Batemans Bay,informing me of great result's.I wasn't sure at first But,they certainly came up with the goods for my 3 friends & I over the past couple of week's.
We even trolled with them with great result's.The one's we are using seem to create alot of bubbles. And that seem's to stir up fishy curiousity

Five species in all,not just flathead either!

Gae.

I'm pretty sure that was a rebel popper Starlo used on the DVD, I've owned one, clear with the red face for twenty years and caught some good bass but never ever thought of trying it in the salt.

Other colours?

Hey fellas,

I was on the mid-north coast for month around October 10-Nov 10 and the bream fishing was atrocious....however...the whiting were going off with 20-45 fish a normal sesh on poppers. Nearly everyone was using the clear rebel poppers but it got boring after a while.....sounds hard to believe...

So during the course of messing around with other lures I had my best success with a Lucky Craft 52 Pencil in the yellow colour...see pics.....then again the whiting up there each bloody kangoku shads and Mira shads...;-)
