Servicing Reels yourself
Im thinking of servicing my Epix20 myself for the first time, it copped a hammering down in Walpole especially from Salt spray. Dave I know you have one, have you serviced it yourself yet. Any drama`s..... I mainly don`t want to come up with extra parts when its back together...?
I probably will. Advice from anyone would be muchly appreciated...cheers richo

Mate honestly, when the local tacklo only charges $20 to service them, I'll admit to not having done my own for a while
I haven't had the Epix done, but I figure with a 5 year warranty, I can afford a bit of neglect (slack? yes I know )When I use to do them, I did something similar to what mike suggested, cleaning all parts in turps, and assembling with just enough grease/oil to do the job - too much hurts almost as much as too little Helps if you've still got the schematic diagram too, for when it's almost reassembled and there's that one 'thingamajig' you forgot to put back

After the old "Drop your $500 combo in the drink" incident, I had to rebuild my Banax.
Now I know that it has recently died on me, but I am sure if we get togethor we can service your reel. My Banax had a lot of tiny parts and I am proud to say that it all went back togethor without any spare bits left over.

Cheers guys,
We'll have a look at it Geoff, and see what we can do, but if I can find a shop to do it for $20 or less. I`ll consider that as well. I need it to run smooth again. How did you go at Madurah today??, much action? cheers richo |

Richo,
Honestly there isn't a whole lot inside an Epix 20, I got mine last week and as a confirmed bona fide "fiddler" had it apart within an hour "just to see how it worked". Buy some reel grease from a tackle shop and use it very sparingly, usually though there is enough inside the reel to get on your finger and wipe the main cog. There is not a lot of servicable parts inside as there sealed bearings, the main one to keep moving is the line roller and this is just a single screw just becareful of the washer (part 317) in there when you take the screw out, just make sure you see what side its on. Have a go yourself its a lot simpler than an overhead or little baitcaster and its another aspect of the hobby and something for those bad weather days

Richo,
That is a bad weather day for me 40 degrees the a/c on and fiddling with "fishy" things. A good weather day for me is overcast, cool even light rain I don't care, I just can't hack the sun like I did in my youth surfing all day. I hate bloody el Nino's Might have something to do with getting so many skin spots burnt off every 6 months

Hey Evan
I got there around 2pm and surprisingly didn't go up too far to nail that one, I could see the red bus.
Here is a pic of it

i'd rather pay $20 for a reel service than turn up to my lts with a box of bits
richo....any parts left over just makes the reel lighter
