Mate get a paddle clip and fully supported backrest if you already dont have them. maybe an air cushion under your rear end might make it more comfortable too.

From what your saying, you can probly get really good stuff for a grand total of $150 give or take a little. I was too stingy and made my rod holder but at least I made it removable. I posted a thread on it so have a look. Wait a minute I will get the digi and take a snap and post it.

Close up of the removable rod holder. White PVC for the tube, painted black on the outside. Bottom of it sealed with silicone. Not as pretty as a bought one but you cant get this style of removable from a shop (to my knowledge) the top just unscrews off and that way I can have it upside down on the roof racks.

Hasn't failed yet.

Did you add the carry handles aswell? Don't know why a lot of SOT's don't come with anything to lift them around, they're a pain in the ass without.

i use a boggy board strape and drope the paddle in the water and my yak has a back rest nices boat there

How much does a kayak set you back... just the yak with paddles alone?

yep it came with everything apart from the paddle clips rod holder and backrest as I sourced those after I got used to being on the boat.

The boat is a spirit fun ski and retail normally for up to $500 including the basic paddle shown. Occasionally they have specials on them and they go as low as $389 for the boat and paddle. A variety of colours to choose from as well.

It only weighs 16kg bare so lifting it on top of the roof racks is fine and I only have a pulsar to move it with. 110 down the highway and I dont notice the difference.

It has been great for learning to kayak fish but I want a 10ft dinghy now to set up for super punts comps here in WA. Nothing more relaxing than a kayak up the local river on a sunny saturday arvo though...

Just out of curiousity, I have been looking into the Spirit Fun Ski, I think it's the same as the one Brad has.

In Perth right now it's on special for $379 including paddle, storage port, carry straps, cargo straps, water bottle cage and water bottle, and $17 for rod holder. However normal price is around $520.

I ask the same question as Chunqx, won't you get sore? I'm going to try it out soon but don't think I'll get one though.

It did before I installed the back rest. Now its not so bad. The boat is that stable that I can actually stand up on it to stretch my back. I can last about four hours on it before I paddle to the bank, walk around and get some blood running through my legs again

When you are catching fish you tend not to notice the pain so much. Of course when you finish up fishing and turn into the wind and chop, the paddle home gets fun. I still enjoy it though.

As for the sea anchor, some people have used black plastic plant pots with holes in the end th slow them down. I won't do it as I believe a huge chunky bucket or wind sock will scare the fish from miles away. If you snag your lure, then you have to get it in, turn around and retrieve and put it back out. Just cast and leave the bail arm open, paddle back and retrieve. Too much gear makes paddling slower and harder and fishing more uncomfortable.
