2 pce backup - spare rod

I several top quality rods, like Black Diamond reapers, Heartland Z
I am after a 2 pce rod, for short trips. Travelling with the above rods involves packing them into a PVC tube etc, ok if you are away for the weekend etc, but for a short afternoon fish it s a hassle.

So I am looking for 2 pce 7' rod that will handle SPs and more so HBs.

My short list includes a Strudwick pro 7' 1 -3 kg.

Any other suggestions or comments welcomed

Rod, I was just in contact (email) with this chap who's selling his Loomis IMX 2 piece 7ft 1-3kg. This is the one rod I can very well recommend having used the 2-4kg version and am absolutely thrilled with it... If you're interested in his details either reply or PM me. I don't know him personally and he's in Qld somewhere but I saw his ad on another site and anything with Loomis catches my eye...

I got the 6'6" 1-3kg 2 piece pro which I think is excellent for the price. Crisp rod with a nice grip. Perfect for fishing softs. Haven't tried hards on it yet though. Might be to light if you plan to fish bigger hardbodies on it.

Rod, after reading your post again, I might have to reconsider my recommendation. The Loomis I was talking about is GREAT for soft plastics to the extent that it will probably end up getting promoted from the spare rod to the first thing you use... but its a little too soft and whippy for hardbodies... If you're still keen tho'....

Hermm.....

Well i got a Struddy Sic Stik Pro 7' but find it a little too "soft" for HB's, excellent for SB's though (IMO anyways)

Dunno of this helps you much

The 7' Innovator Nitro is awesome and is well suited to both hardbodies and soft plastics.

I find it a little difficult to believe that there is a rod that's excellent for SPs and HBs as well.. My opinion is that a good SP rod is one with a soft tip (whippy) to allow the fish to suck in plastics without suspecting something's wrong but at the same time transmit that back over the blank so you'd know its happening... Hardbodies require a stiffer type rod so you can control how you want the HB to do.. a softer type SP rod, if you try the "Bushy" retrieve, it'll load the rod and not quite respond and then spring back which leaves alittle delay in how you want it to go and how it actually goes..
Am I wrong there?
