Jewfish off the rocks

Hey guys, I'm looking for a rod to throw primarily plastics around the 1/2 oz and the odd hardbody, mainly aimed at jewfish. It will be used on catalina 4000 and needs to be a decent length, around the 9 foot range would be nice. Pretty much, i'm looking for something relatively light in the hand and nice to fish with, but still with enough power to get the most out of 30-40lb line. A pretty specific niche i know, but any suggestions would be awesome

It's 11 foot but the daiwa lateo xh would be great.
Or the seajigger heavy.

I think 9' would be a bit on the short side for the Rocks. The extra length is really needed with good sized fish in the wash although not perfect for plastics / lure fishing in general.

Yep that is true, although like you said i'm not a fan of long rods for plastics work.I have used 11 foot before and although it made it easier to land fish it was unbearable to work a smaller plastics from 4"- 5" which is what i use most of the time. I think 9-10 foot is the best length for me, especially as my spots drops straight off to deep water at my feet.

Cheers for the feedback, ive checked these rods out and although the action is nice, i really don't like the grip set up and super long but for plastics work. I actually owned a lateo 11' Xh and it was a great rod for distance casting metals and plastics that only require a straight retrieve, but once lure manipulation got involved i found the but setup and minimalistic grip setup got in the way

I looked around for a 9 foot rod to throw medium weight metals a while back and settled on a Shimano Revolution Coastal 902. Not a bad rod but might be a touch heavier than what you're after.
I remember there was a few options floating around on the JDM market at the time, but I really wanted something I could see before bought it.

Mate give the penn prevail a look, well priced and they do a 9ft 8kg- 12kg
or a 10ft 10kg- 15kg I need a rod for spinning hards off the rocks for Jew and these are the rods that I use
all good components and great price I think around $200 they look good too

i spin with a 4500 Blast and a 9ft starlo stick, have landed fish up to 25kg. Really don't think you need anything longer unless you are fishing exceptionally high walls/rocks.

seajigger heavy probably best chance of landing fish, i have been using the medium sensor surf, its pretty light and lacks guts of the jigger but has beautiful control and feel on the plastic.

I use one of these in the 9'6" 1-3
Searched for ages for the right rod for the same application.
This thing feels so light and crisp in the hand but loads up nice and has plenty of pull. I fish a saltiga 4000H on mine I love it!

How about the Nordic Stage Scout. There's a 9ft 12-30lb model.
http://www.nordicstage.com/au/scout/

Never seen one of these but if they're anything like the other Nordics they would be really crisp. I think there are a few On here who are sponsored by them, maybe they could give more insight.

Yamaha Blue sniper or try and have a look at the NS black hole magic eye 106S...very light and will fish 20-40lb no worries , otherwise I'd highly recommend the N.S. Black hole cabin II rods in the 9'6" MH Monster... Won't find a better rid in this price bracket... NS are brought in by ej Todd so you should be able to find them locally or get your local to order them in for you to play with.

Those Abu rods look good.. I wouldn't recommend a penn prevail rod, they are the softest taper rod and will be no good for lure casting

Daiwa have a 9'6 Saltist Demon blood model rated at 20 - 40lb. These have plenty of grunt but maybe a handful working plastics. Some of the Saltiga models like the 80TN or something in the Dorado range might be worth a look too but pricey.

don't know what you have been looking at gummy guy but the Penn Prevail are a great rod and like mattg and myself we both use them for spinning hardbodys off the stones so that's 2 people that have real experience with them
I hate it when people post up throw away lines
I wouldnt get on here and knock a rod unless I had used it
the whole range is good and there would be one that might suit and at around $200 great value
So Check them out
