Samurai warranty

Hi all,

I just recently broke a 302-2 top hard while fighting a fish. Now the rod is 6-12lb and I match is with a Certate 3012 running 20lb Castaway line. I broke to top half just where he joint is while fighting a 3kg snapper. I took it to the local dealer and the owner told me I am over used the rod and it will not cover by warranty (he told me I suppose to used maximum of 12lb). Is that rite? I dont know...he told me he can get me the top piece for $200, new rod is $329 at the moment...what should I do??? I have broke 2 nitro rod before and the store just get me a replacement piece for $80 and that it...no question were asked. Surely the samurai blank is good...but is it worth the trouble service from distributor? Even my local tackle store guy told me Frogley Offshore is very hard to deal with. I know some BM in here associate with them...is that reasonable???

hi i have broken a samurai before and paid the 200 bucks for a replacement but it was my mistake, i broke it. Your rod however sounds faulty for sure, 20lb castaway with a 302 seems quite reasonable to me, im sure you fished it normally and didnt want to break it on a fish. Theyre designed to be fished hard. I think you need to get in contact with frogleys and get a manufacturer replacement

The local tackle store who been looking after me for over 10 years have throw in their towel...look like $200 for a replacement tip. I suspect it a faulty rod as well...but here the thing I have lost the receipt so no proof of purchased. The tackle store honour the sale...but the distributor doesnt. It a dilemma.

he's talking DohDohDohDoh...
go straight to Frogleys and deal with it, and him.

A 6-12lb rod is what plenty of people use for fish much bigger than that!
You could be using 50lb braid and it would still not be the problem. Did he even bother to ask what kind of drag power you were set at? because that would be the number 1 enemy when coming to break a rod mid fight.

Understandable if you had a Stella 8000 or something on it with 10kg of drag. But the fact is I doubt you would have even had 3 or 4kg max drag set on your reel, am I right?

I take it you didn't lift the rod back over your head to try and hit your ass yeah?

Typical tackle store tactics where they'd try make you pay the $200. then plead a faulty rod to Frogleys.

It happens like that mate. I took my brand new 10-20lb Samaki C-12 out one day on the boat, threw a 25g slug 6 times before I realised the tip section had slit straight through the half like a falling tree. Didn't even bother with trying to claim anything, just cut it and put a new tip on.

Good luck with it, but the customer is never right anymore

What you do depends on what you believe happened. If you believe the rod was defective (that is a manufacturing fault or defect was present in the rod causing it to break under what an objective person would deem to be normal use), then make a warranty claim. A warranty is supposed to guard a consumer against defective products for a reasonable time.

On the other hand, if you feel your particular use of the rod resulted in the rod breaking, then you may have to make use of the Samurai Replacement policy (which is not actually a warranty at all).

Quote:
Samurai Reaction rods come with a lifetime replacement warranty. This warranty covers the whole rod on a replacement program where the consumer is required to pay 35% of the recommended retail price. Warranty only covers the actual model in concern and only if the model in question has been discontinued by the manufacturer may a substitution be given. NO substitutions will be made otherwise. This warranty is only valid while Samurai Reaction rods are still commercially available. This warranty does not cover broken and or damaged componentry. It is the sole responsibility of the customer to keep proof of purchase to validate the warranty.
Talk to the distributor before you make your decision.

Sorry about your broken stick.
If you feel that it broke feebly and you stump up some loot for a replacement
tip are you really going to have confidence in the stick again?
I have been in your position and stumped up for the tip but I have lost confidence in my rod and as a result it sits on the reserve bench and rarely gets a run.
Can you afford to have an expensive outfit that you have little mojo for??
Good luck what ever you decide.

Thanks for all the reply...yes the drag is hardly heavy...I am using light gear to fish and drag are loose so the snapper can have the first run and then I strike...it sad to snap an expensive investment

For the rest of the day I was using Nitro Distance Spin that 2-4kg rod. and honestly that the rod caught most of the snapper on the day. I was having so much fun it didnt hit me until I pick it up again.

The drag is loose...and the angle of rod lifting is 45 degree...if need to be I even have the video how I handle the fish. Now I have to think twice when buying an expensive rod.

Did you really need to take that many fish?

There are 6 of us on the boat...we still under bag limit mate. I personally took one fish so I have excuse to be back on the water. Guessing the other 5 boys have large families to feed. Not my boat so not my call. I asked the captain the same thing. Do we really need to????
