Fuel/oil mix

Having done a search with no result, I'll ask the question......
My new Yamaha 30hp 2 stroke is just run in after almost 10 hours. The manual says now to run 100:1 mixture which to my limited, old school mechanical knowledge seems waaaay too dry.
What are your thoughts?
I would be happy to run say, 50:1 but this may be too oily for the plugs etc.
Any comments would be appreciated soon as we are off to Pt Gregory on Saturday arvo to find some decent fish.....which I can't find here.

Regards
Neil.

Neil,

Ive been running yammies for about 5 years now, and can tell ya that theres nothing wrong witht the 100:1 mix.

The model i am currently running (40VHMD, 98 model) is I think, the only exception to the 100:1 rule, being a 50:1 engine.

I've found it best to run the engine (whatever make) at the ratio outlined in the manual.

Good luck, have fun with the new yammie.

U'll never go back to any other brand!!!!!!!!!

Yammie lover

Neil,
I had the same concerns when I recently purchased my Yammie cv30, but after lengthy discussions with a motor specialist, I was assured that these motors are designed to run a 100:1 mix with absolutely no long term harm to the motor.

Willo

Thanks for the re-assurance guys, where possible I like to do what the manual suggests but this did have me worried. I know that our aussie supplied fuel is nowhere near as good as that supplied in Japan for example - high sulphur - added ethenol etc so I hope they have taken that into account when giving fuel specs.
If you are not having problems though thats good enough for me, besides, if they recommend it then they must provide warranty if there's a problem I guess.

Thanks again

Neil

100/1 is definately safe...
2 stroke technology and efficiency is increasing. I used to run my race MotoX bikes at 50/1, and if you consider the massive amount of stress on the engine, thats pretty remarkable. Always go with the manual!!!

Neil,
with regard to fuel quality I only use premium unleaded. I figure that a few extra cents per litre is worth a bit more piece of mind.
