Outboard question

Hi all im in the middle of rebuilding the tub for me young blokes comps in Perth , it is a stacer 4.49 nomad 40hp tiller with all the goodies ( Kota, live well sounders , now I'm now giving it a heart trans plant and thinking of putting a new 60hp tohatsu with ptt and lecy start with side console , the boat max rate is a 50hp and weight of transom is max at 115kg the 60hp is 112kg , will this affect the insurance side of things and will it strain the boat in any way as it is a heavy boat and has anyone delt with these motors cheers

I once asked the smae question to a boat dealer.
His answer was that the rating is for horsepower and the weight was second option but the horse power was to never exceed the rating.
The way insurance companies are ,I wouldn't be putting a motor on a boat that exceeded the hp rating.

Stacer lists on their website for the new 4.49m nomad a max of 60hp. I don't think your boat would be overpowered by having a 60 on the back. Suggest sending them an email and confirming if your boat can handle the 60hp. Newer motors these days are a lot lighter than what they used to be. Your weight is within the range. Won't hurt to ask them and get it in writing if the 60 is ok. Hope this helps

A m8 that had a Polycraft that was rated to 50hp and a certain weight (cant remember off hand),he wanted to put a lightweight 60hp Honda 4stroke on it which came in under the weight,he contacted the manufacturer and they said "no probs" and sent him a new compliance plate,so the boat is now rated to 60hp unless the motor is heavier than allowed.
Also the boat is fully insured and he had no issues or extra cost involved with insuring the upgrade.

There is a handy company called kpsmarine.com that will re rate your hull if needed. I just had my stessl upgraded and it was really easy. Just send all your info away and within 10 days you will have a new compliance plate!
