Yeah that's normal. They used a really flexible spigot, and leave a space so that the rod can maintain an even curve and not compromise the action.

g'day, how do these rods feel, the action is rated as light / medium light etc, can they be used for other applications as well?

They are pretty heavy actioned more suited to bigger egis 3.5 and above so they wouldn't be too useful casting any lures under 1/4 ounce.

It was a long time ago I used one in HK. Pretty sure from memory it was rated 2.5-4 but felt way too heavy actioned to work the 2.5

ok well I have the CXX 83-L which is rated to 2.5-4 and I reckon throwing 3's and 3.5's with it is perfect. It has a very thin blank and is definitely not under rated and not too heavy actioned.

I used this same rod for trouting using 8lb leaders and bream size lures and it was throwing them further than a sr 842-2 GLX.

So it can defninitely be used for other applications, depends which model you get though
