Running in
I pick up my cross country very soon
It might be a dumb question but when running in your motor is doing it in freshwater generally better? Not only for the lack of salt thing but also because freshwater would be less dense. Therefore putting less load on the engine? |

i would of thought freshwater would be more dense?:S, if theres a nice freshwater spot to fish in i dont see why not but if its a special trip just to do it in fresh i couldnt see the point.

You want to run in under more load, this builds pressure behind the rings to seat them properly.

Well if your planning to use an outboard flushing additive it would'nt be a bad idea from that standpoint like if the MACS stuff really does what it claims, you could have a nice film built up before the outboard even see's saltwater.

Is it a merc opti max? They are almost unbreakable, the motor won't let you hurt it easily.
If it's not a merc please refer to below: Salt or fresh, hmmm density. Where are you fishing? Temperature can effect density so that would depend on if it's a hot or cold day. It will also be effected by the gravity, are you opperating on earth at 1 atmosphere? Can we put a mag flow meter on the exit line of the cooling system? If so I will need to do a conductivity probe to make sure it will work well. Then we need to think about the corrosion that may occur if the flow meter comes in contact with seawater. Hmmm is tantalum compatible with seawater? I think we may need to check the pH and chlorine levels of the water as well. This is going to be the best run in boat in the world. I can do you a good deal on a pH probe and a analyzer, because your a BM member ofcourse. I just snagged a 16 channel paperless logger for myself, we can use that for temp We might do a calc on exactly how much pressure is on the leg aswell just to be safe Think we almost have the other motors covered for a good run in. Half to 98% of that is bunkem Point is: many of us look way to far into running these new outboards in, I know I did.Give it a thrashing, it will be fine. Follow the manuel for the first 2 hours if you want to be safe, I have always followed to the letter.
