Starting a boat with no key

Stupid question, worth a shot trying to fit in a session tomorrow with no key.

Is there any way to turn on an off a mercury motor without a key?

I'm sure any one that knows will not be stupid enough to announce openly on here.

I doubt any one form a mercury dealer would tell you over the phone either. Call and ask if they can help you, then swing past with the boat so they know it's yours.

Where are the keys?

If the merc shop is open they will most likely have a key. There is a set range of keys.

supposed to be on the road out west now, after setting up and looking for the keys we think they were left at the ramp yesterday

for the purpose of being able to fish tomorrow I thought I would put the question forward

being a public holiday tomorrow I don't think I'm going to get my hands on any keys

private messages welcome

wash it with nice scented marine soap and a soft rag ...then dry it gently ...kiss the powerhead while you whisper that its the best motor you ever owned...that should turn it on...

telling it that your trading it for an etec will turn it off really fast...

or....call a marine yard in the morning in wa where its not a public holiday and email your id to them before your ask the question...or google the problem...

depends if its carb or efi, it can be as simple as connecting a wire or two behind the key barrel to get the acc to come on then using a jumper lead from battery stright to the starter motor.

you do it all from behind the key barrel in one of two ways...mechanical by removing the inner part of the barrel...or electrical by bridging two wires and momentarily powering a third...but i have no idea who you are and if you cross the wrong wires you can fry the mercs electrics..

best that you fish with a mate on another boat and get your boat sorted at a dealer .

or cancel the fishing a go spend the day with your lady because then you earn a leave pass in advance...

Couldn't u just take the cowling off, wrap a rope around the head and start it like a pull start, it's one of those features that's built in incase ur battery goes flat... I know my eTec and yamahas can be started this way.

Cheers

You still need the key turned for it to start.
